A red carnation for Mother’s Day

Do you know that in the west, and probably even in our part of the world by now, it is a tradition to present carnations to mothers on Mother’s Day? Do you know why it is so? I won’t repeat the history in this post but you can read more about it here.

Just a word of caution. When you pick out those carnations for your beloved mom come this Mother’s Day on 11 May, be careful what colours you pick. According to the tradition, you are to give red carnations. White carnations are for late mothers. So though they may make a nice combination, think twice about it!
