Baby’s Chinese birthday

by Penny on August 15, 2008

Call me a lousy mom, I didn’t even know today is baby’s 1st birthday – according to the Chinese lunar calendar, that is. Luckily I found out and it’s not too late to sing baby a cheerful birthday song. That earned us some big smiles and a snug look.

We didn’t have a big celebration as we’re saving it for his actual birthday do a few weeks from now. We went out to dinner and then we went to find him his very first pair of shoes.

We saw two pairs that we liked, and they were both loafers. The favourite pair is not practical for him just yet because he can easily pull the shoes off his feet. So we had to select a pair that doesn’t come off even though he tugs at it.

When he tried on both sides of the shoes, everyone including grandma liked the shoes. Without having to try on more, grandma decided that pair is it. According to Chinese customs, the maternal grandma shall buy him his first pair of shoes at the age of one. So grandma happily went to the counter to buy it.

Here’s baby’s first pair of shoes. Ain’t it cute?
