Years ago when I first had cats, I used to spend money buying cat toys for them. But you know what? They simply loved a rolled up paper, some cigars boxes or a plastic mineral water bottle more than any of those expensive toys I got. In the end, I knew better than to buy any toys for them, just let them find their own form of entertainment that come for free with things around the house.
The same goes to kids, as I recently learned. Spending money on Fisher-Price, Disney stuff, etc, doesn’t necessarily guarantee that your child will love the toys as much as they cost. I found that Ryan tends to like the cheaper toys as compared to the branded ones.
But nothing beats something that we didn’t pay for which he absolutely loves. One morning when we were throwing out stuff, he thought his dad was throwing away his new-found toy and he cried so loud and pitifully.
Have a guess what it is…I have a feeling that my little feline girls would have loved it just as much as Ryan. Here’s what it is…

Don’t see it? Well, it’s the big empty cardboard box that came with a piece of furniture we bought. He’s now sitting and lying happily in it to play with toys and even to watch TV! The best things in life sometimes do come for free. Believe it.
