Is your child affected by the weather?

by Penny on June 5, 2009

I’m always nervous whenever I find Ryan feeling feverish. It doesn’t help that I have a permanent mental image of a past incident watching a frantic mother with her sick baby having a seizure. This kind of memory doesn’t get erased very easily at all. Sometimes I think it’s good to be a little paranoid so that the little one’s health is not compromised.

Lately Ryan has been feverish every now and then. Sometimes, I don’t even know if he’s just feeling hot and therefore his body feels warm or he is having a temperature. The weather is terribly hot and dry, and I sometimes wonder if it could be one of the causes of his frequent mild fevers.

Whenever he doesn’t feel well, he doesn’t complain and he won’t really cut back on his hyperactivity as well. So you won’t be able to detect it if you don’t constantly touch him or check on him carefully. I’m glad that his babysitter is very attentive and detects his mild fevers and even brings him to the paediatrician when I’m at work. It gives me a lot of peace of mind knowing that they will not hesitate to see to his need for medical attention.

With such bad weather condition that we’re experiencing, do take extra care of your little ones. Even adults can fall ill easily in such weather, what more a little child with an unstable immune system. And now with the confirmed cases of the A H1N1 virus rising to 5 in the country as reported in today’s newspapers, we should take note to be extra careful.

I think so, yes. My Rachel was sick a couple of weeks back due to the heat, and on some hot days she even seems to have a mild fever of 37 degrees.

Worse of all, my baby seems to be more cranky lately. She doesn’t sleep for long, is agitated all the time and will cry often.

Once we turn on the air cond, she sleeps like a log :)

My mum said as long as the babies are playing and eating like usual even when they have a temperature, we should not be too worried. Parts and parcels of growing up :-)
