CIMB Foundation’s meaningful photography contest

by Penny on June 1, 2009

Last week I saw an advertisement in the newspapers regarding CIMB Foundation’s photography contest. It’s not just any other photography contest that awards the best photographer for his or her photography, but one that is meaningful and that contributes to the society too. This is how the contest and the prizes work:

Interested participants need to register to take part. Then, he or she should take photographs in one of the 3 themes for this contest. The three themes must support either of these causes:

  • Community development
  • Sports
  • Education

The winning photograph will see the photographer being rewarded with a RM30,000 cash prize. The cause that is being featured in the photograph will also receive RM100,000 from CIMB Foundation. There are many prizes up for grabs and this contest is also split by 2 categories – Open and Student. Prizes vary for these 2 categories.

I’m very keen on this contest. I’m not a great photographer, but I do like taking photos. And if my winning photograph can help a good cause, I’ll be even more thrilled. The first thing that came to my mind about supporting a cause is actually to create more awareness about mesothelioma cancer around the world. But then I don’t think it really fits into the 3 categories. The closest to it that I can imagine would be the community development but it really isn’t a direct link, is it? Plus, it would also be difficult to capture a picture on this topic. So I might have to rethink harder to find a worthy cause to support.

Anyone else interested in joining this competition just to give your own photography skill a test as well as to support a good cause? Check out this site for more information.

Im confius with step no.1 which stated like this….

1. Find a worthy cause, and snap a photo of it.( Or snap 5 photos of it.)

What the phrase in bold means?

I saw this on their site too. I interpret it as you should take lots of shots, as many as you wish, then submit your best shot. I’m sure you can also shoot them an email and ask for a clarification.
