Communication with my toddler

by Penny on January 14, 2009

I’m really beginning to enjoy this stage where the boy has learned a couple of words and is able to communicate. At least now we’re able to understand what he wants since he can ask for it by telling us. You know how babies ask for things with cries and it could be anything under the sun from wanting to be fed to needing a change of diaper or needing a hug. So this change from crying to ask for things to telling us with words is a big achievement!

Nowadays if he wakes in the middle of the night, he would call out to me and asks for milk. I’ll tell him that we’re in the midst of making it and he would wait patiently and quietly for it. Before, when he was just a baby, you know the drill, you get woken up by cries and while you’re making milk half asleep and telling the baby it’ll be done soon, he would continue to respond with cries until the milk bottle gets into his mouth. So I really welcome this development where we can understand each other through communication.

Last night while we were in the car, he pointed to the TV screen and said “Bee”. He wanted to watch his favourite movie, the Bee Movie. I flipped through the CD holder and I showed him the Madagascar DVD and asked what about it instead. He said “No. Scared. Bee”. Both daddy and mummy burst out laughing because it sounded so cute and funny. Of course we put on his Bee Movie for him. :)

Now, we are also playing cars with him, bouncing a ball to let him catch, play hide and seek, and a few other games with him. It’s nice to finally get to this stage. As McDonald says, I’m Lovin’ It! :D

Yeah I can totally relate to that. Imagine if we have to go through it again a 2nd or a 3rd time (if we want more babies).. hahaha.
