The newspapers have been a depressing source of information for me in the last couple of days. Here are some of the things that I’ve read that are very disturbing to me.
1. The fire at the day care center in Mexico that killed 42 people, most of whom are children under the age of 2. In today’s papers, the picture of relatives being stricken with pain during the funeral of a child really was quite an unbearable sight.
2. It is recently revealed that Khmer Rouge members had killed children to prevent them from taking revenge in the future. It was most horrifying to learn that they smashed babies against tree trunks to kill them! There is just no punishment int he world great enough for these merciless killers for their acts of extreme cruelty.
As if these stories are not sad enough, last night I read a forwarded email about how a couple found out that their toddler was being abused by the babysitter and went to confront her. It was a nightmare for them when the husband of the babysitter got mad and locked them in the house and retrieved a chopper and threatened to hurt them if they went to the police. Luckily the children of the babysitter quickly let them off when they saw that the threatened couple were recording the incident with a mobile phone.
What a scary world it is that we live in today. How can anyone not be disturbed with all these things going on in our society today?

I am troubled as well and I avoided seeing the photos. I think that it is a scary world we are living here today and I always worry about what the world will be like for our kids when they are all grown up. And sometimes I feel guilty that I have brought them to this horrid, horrid, world.
A friend of mine told me she didn’t want to have kids. When I asked her why, she said what’s the point. The world is not getting any better so why make another human being suffer… I do agree with her at some point but still I can’t resist being a mom… selfish me.
Busy Bee & Amy, maybe we shouldn’t be the ones to feel guilty bringing kids into such a horrid world full of cruelty and crimes. It’s those who have no heart and carry out such acts who should feel guilty for making the world such an unpleasant place to live in…
