Elomet cream helps to keep eczema at bay

by Penny on October 30, 2008

Eloment cream is a very effective eczema cream that works wonders on our little boy. At one month old, he started developing rough skin patches on his face and body. At first, we thought that it was just a condition of heat rash or ring worm, and applied medicated and cooling powder on him in the hope that the rash will go away.

Upon consultation the paediatrician however, he was unfortunately diagnosed as suffering from mild eczema and we were quite devastated because it is something that is almost incurable.

Under the doctor’s prescription, we applied Elomet cream on his problem area once a day and within 2 to 3 days, the rough patches subsided. But back then, the patches came back every now and then, especially around the neck and face area due to heat and sweat.

Whenever we spotted these patches, we would apply Elomet on him in the night and by morning, he would be clear of them. That’s how effective Elomet is!

A word of caution on the use of Elomet, though. It contains some steroids and thus we were instructed by the doctor to use only a small amount on the baby. It is safe enough to be used on infants provided that it is only used when necessary, and in small dosages.

Depending on skin sensitivity, some may experience a little burning or tingling sensation when the cream is applied. Always consult your doctor before using this cream if you are uncertain.

In any case, Elomet cream is not easily available on the shelves. You need a prescription for it, so head over to a pharmacist to purchase one. You should be able to find it at major personal care outlets like Guardian and Watsons.

A small tube of Elomet cream costs RM10.50. Since very little of this cream is used at each application, a small tube is sufficient to last you for a long while.

What’s everyone doing for safety precautions for Halloween? My husband came across an article (http://i-newswire.com/pr220892.html) with some info about background checking neighbors. I thought that may be a little overboard but it had some other good suggestions for some precautions I haven’t thought about. Last year my youngest son came down with a massive fever after Halloween. I almost thought about just taking the kids to our church’s fall festival this year instead of door-to-door to prevent that from happening again. I don’t know yet. What’s your advice? Am I over-reacted or just being a concerned mom?

my elder boy has mild eczema since he was two. just like your son, he is using elomet cream under the doctor’s prescripton. it works on him quite well, too.

i’m just wondering if there are any other alternative ways to reduce this problem.

Ai-Ling, it’s rather unfortunate that our sons have this condition. Apart from applying Elomet, we also use Eubos Cream Bath Oil on him and so far it’s been keeping his eczema away. I’ll write more about this bath oil soon. Give it a try, it may work on your son too.

I was googling for this cream, hoping to find it available online.
Yes, it’s indeed a wonder cream. I suffered from eczema too and it always work wonder. :)

April, I’m not sure if you will be able to purchase this online because where I come from, we need to buy it over the pharmacist’s counter as it is a prescribed drug. So you may not be able to find an easy purchase online. It does work wonders, doesn’t it? :)

Sonia, you can try to use Elomet. It is safe for babies, so it should be safe for adults too. However, use sparingly and just once a day.

i’m suffering from acne vulgaris especially on my face. What suitable cream should I use to prevent this acne vulgaris on my face?.

When I was a child I suffered from a mild form of eczema. My parents looked all over for any type of cream that could help cure my skin problem. While they were in Mexico, a doctor recommended Elomet. I am happy to say that my eczema faded away very quickly and only comes back during the summer, when I spend a lot of time in the sun or play sports(I play Varsity Tennis so I spend a lot of time in the sun). I am currently 17 years old and a senior in high school. Thanks to Elomet, I had very little problems with my skin throughout my childhood years.

Elomet is the best cream I have used. Now I am in Vancouver Canada. Is there anyone knows where I can but it here ? Thank you for your suggestion.

18 Penny March 4, 2010 at 12:03 am

Gulson, it’s best to check with a pharmacist if not a doctor if you are uncertain.

Sonia, glad the info is helpful to you :) I bought the Eubos products from our local pharmacy Guardian outlets.

Alana, I’m not sure if Elomet works for acne…I only know it’s ok for eczema.

Walter, thanks for sharing your experience. Elomet does work wonders and it’s great that it helped your condition too! :)

Angela, hmm…not sure where you can find Elomet in Vancouver. Maybe try an online source from the US to be shipped to where you are?

Hi
Yes, it can be used sparingly on acne. I am having bad breakouts and was advised by the skin specialist that I should use it for 1 week only. However, u shd seek your doc’s advise before using it as it is a steroid based cream. If u use more than prescription, it will do more harm than good.

can i know what type of steroid drugs used in this cream? thanks

21 marlia May 18, 2010 at 9:48 am

my baby boy is having rashes around his genital area…poor him. i feel like crying to see him, kinda suffering with the rashes. it’s very red, from the genital area to the butt..i wonder can elomet cream do a magic..help me pls… :-(

22 Penny May 18, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Steph, sorry I don’t know the exact steroid’s name used in the cream…

Marlia, your poor baby! Have you tried Drapolene, which is a nappy rash cream? If that doesn’t help, maybe you should consult the paed and see if Elomet is suitable for his use. Hope he gets well soon.

Penny

Thanks 4 ur concern. he is ok now. the doc prescribe him with decocort cream..what a relief!!on 2 days i applied the cream n it’s gone!

24 jd July 1, 2010 at 7:24 pm

the steroid’s name is Mometasone as written on the tube itself. most steroid names carry the suffix -sone eg diprosone, hydrocortisone
i got this tube today but it cost rm26.50 now o_O

My baby has suffered from eczema from 1mth to over 2mths old. I applied Elomet 2 days and his face turned fine. However, a week later, eczema has come back. I’m afraid corticosteroid causes some opposite side on my baby so I hesitate to use it again. My baby is only over 2 months, so is it safe to use Elomet on his face even once a day?

26 Keng Soon August 17, 2010 at 6:38 pm

i’m using that cream now but i dunno why but my face is getting red. Is that the side effects?
