Food business is still a thriving business

by Penny on March 3, 2009

Just yesterday we realised that people are still crowding eateries everywhere. Whether they are the more costly restaurants or bistros or just some coffee shops, these eateries are never short of customers. I guess food is something most of us enjoy and wouldn’t mind spending a bit more just to be able to enjoy good food and ambience.

We also noticed that some particular food franchises are doing really well of late. They are mushrooming everywhere, in malls, office buildings and even shoplots. And we know for a fact that some of these restaurant or cafe franchise cost a bomb, somewhere close to half a million just to get started. And yet, people are still venturing into them big time.

This has made me wonder if food business is an evergreen one, whether in good times or bad, people are still willing to spend. I agree that food business is a great one to get into, but it’s also one that requires very long hours and high capital. Both of which are difficult barriers for many to get started in the food business.

If you had the money to invest in a food business, what would be your choice? To start your own eatery from a brand that you can build upon yourself, or would you register for a franchise license to operate an already established eatery?
