When Ryan was much younger, he loved to play with masak-masak (cooking) sets. Even up to now, he sometimes still enjoys playing chef and cooking up a “feast” for us. Many parents said it’s normal that boys also enjoy this kind of toys which are quite stereotyped to be girlish toys. I never minded that Ryan likes to play with them.
Recently, Ryan also developed a liking for a toy such as this:
A supermarket cash register and barcode scanner set. Since we are quite stereotype in thinking that a cashier’s job mostly are held by the ladies, therefore a lot of people seem to think this kind of toys is also a girlish one.
Do you think so? Well I again don’t mind him playing with this. I find that it teaches him the concept of buying and selling and the process of queuing up to pay for stuff when we go shopping.
Girlish toy or not, this kind of set is not cheap though. I found about 2 sets of this kind of toy and they cost a minimum of RM50 for a set. I haven’t bought any for him, but if he keeps asking about it for another month or so, I may consider getting one for him. He’s got some strange liking especially for that scanner! Anyone has come across any sets that cost less than RM50? I don’t really want to spend that much in case he plays with it for a week and sets it aside…
