As I understand it from other mummies, their little toddlers who have just passed the stage of babyhood are now consuming more solid food and less formula. It makes sense to me too and I’ve always assumed the same. But my little boy doesn’t seem to be slowing on the milk. Instead, he’s consuming even more!
Some two weeks ago I switched him to the next stage of formula, from Enfalac A+ to EnfaGrow A+. I gave him the same amount, which is 7 ounces during each milk time. Normally he would drink once in the morning when he wakes up, have breakfast and then maybe another time in the later part of the morning before his lunch on solid food. In the afternoons, he’ll probably consume another feed and then it’s porridge at dinner. After dinner, he may consume just one or two more feeds before he sleeps. In the nights, he would wake up once to satisfy his milk craving too.
But now that we’ve switched him to EnfaGrow, he’s asking for milk every hour or every two hours despite feeding him his full meals and snacks in between! It seems like he’s eating more solid food as well as drinking a lot more milk. One night, he even woke us up 3 times to ask for milk!
I’m wondering if this is normal since most mummy friends of mine are quite shocked with this story of mine. Anyone’s little one is taking on more milk like how he is doing?
One thought entered my mind. If I were breastfeeding him still and with his demand for milk shooting up like this, I think I would be eating non-stop myself just to keep up! And who knows, I may just grow too, to a point I might have to resort to things like Decaslim to control my “growth”! Good thing he weaned himself early on, huh?

Wah… that’s really weird. Most of my mummy friends also told me they will consume less milk. I wonder if that’s actually healthy, with him eating so much. Did you check with the paed if that’s ok? Even with Hayley I feed her milk/porridge every 2.5 to 3 hrs and I was told that is too much and babies doesn’t know when to stop so we have to control their feeding. To me, more is always better
You must be dead tired each morning since your boy still ask for milk in the middle of the night. Pity you.
Hey, since you’ve changed to Enfagrow A+, do you have any problems with his poo? I was told that Enfagrow A+ is very heaty and some toddlers will end up with constipation problems. I am about to change Hayley’s too since she’s going to be 1 this Sat and am not sure if I should give her Enfagrow A+ or some other brands.
I once had similar problem with my #1 when he was about your kid’s age. His demand for milk was endless. DH and I were worried too. Imagine, there were times when he demanded for 2 bottles of milk (and that would be 16 ozs!!) before he goes to bed! It went on for several weeks and then it went back to the usual mode.
Btw, I guess one of the reasons why some toddlers are craving for more milk at odd hours is because Enfa milk range tastes YUMMY and sweet, in fact. How do I know that? I did squirt some onto my palm and tried it, out of curiosity.
Amy, you are right about the some toddlers having constipation problem after switching to Enfagrow. Ours had that problem for a week, but they were fine after that
It is normal because toddler grow and they need more food/milk. As long as your toddler is not overweight, it should be fine.
How old is your toddler?
Amy, I’ve yet to ask the paed. He’s due for a jab soon so I guess I’ll ask then. He doesn’t have constipation problem and we’re glad. We give him lots of vege, fruits and water. Maybe these help.
Ai-Ling, that’s my hubby’s theory too of why he’s drinking so much milk, because it’s sweet and tastes good to him! We didn’t try it but the babysitter did and confirmed that it’s sweet. I’ll watch his eating/milk pattern and see how it goes.
Michelle, I’m glad to hear it’s normal! As long as he’s not getting obese or losing weight despite eating, it shouldn’t be too major a concern, right? He’s 18 months now.
Hey there, I have an almost 2 year old girl who’s a very fussy eater, in fact since birth. Would love to exchange stories.
Although I must say, it’s getting better now, and I believe part of the refusal was due to teething (she started teething at 4 months). She’s still not adventurous with new food, and is fussy not just on taste but on texture and colour as well. For example, she won’t eat anything that’s orange in colour, other than oranges. How strange is that?
Hi Wendy, thanks for dropping by. Would love to exchange stories about parenting and kids stuff. You have a blog? Perhaps you can leave your URL and we can all visit and share. It’s really strange that your little girl won’t touch food by their colour!! First time I’m hearing this…hehe.
