Still fresh on the issue of the tainted milk from China, here’s some useful tip to determine where your dairy product came from, whether it’s from China or Taiwan. Note that I read this information from a forwarded email, so I can’t vouch for how true this is but no harm learning a new thing for the day, especially if it involves the safety of our food consumption.
Check the barcodes of the dairy products you are purchasing. Products made in China will start with digits such as 690, 691 and 692. Those from Taiwan will bear numbers starting with 471.
So the next time you go grocery shopping, don’t just read the labels, read those barcodes too! And for a safe list of products to consume, you can read my earlier post on safe dairy and milk products.
