How to keep a sleeping baby warm?

by Penny on March 25, 2008

My little boy turns a lot in his sleep. We sometimes wake up to find that he has turned 90 degrees from the original position we placed him for the night. Because of this, we don’t cover him with a blanket because he might get entangled with the blanket as he flips about. The worst thing that could happen is suffocation.

At the same time, I’m worried he might feel cold in the middle of the night even though we turn off the air-cond and lower the speed of the ceiling fan. How should I keep him warm without having to worry about suffocation?

try tucking him in long sleeves and pyjamas that cover his legs. That way his body temperature can be constant but check that it is not too warm for him. Babies have large skin area-volume ratio so they are “cooler” than us adults(especially the oversized ones).
