I’ve never really thought about the above subject headline until I recently read this article where it says that many mompreneurs were inspired to be enterpreneurs because of their motherhood experience. As I think this statement through, I find that it rings true for me, at least. I am very inspired to be an enterpreneur because I want to be a mum who will have the time for her kids. I don’t want a 9 to 5 job that ties me down and can only depend on public holidays and annual leave to spend reasonable amount of time with her kids on a weekday.
I want to be a mum who could wake up with the kid at reasonable hours, spend time at the breakfast table and then set off to the day’s adventure. Be it a visit to the park, the toy stores or even sending the kid to school, I would like to have that kind of intimate moments with my kid as he grows up.
These days many parents are both working and we don’t have such luxury to spend time with our kids growing up. More often than not, our babysitters will be the ones telling us the funny things that they did and said for the day, and we get to lap up the remaining hours of the day that they are awake with us. Often, we are also tired from the day at work, not to mention the time spent behind the wheels battling those horrid jams before we finally make it home with the kid in tow.
As it is, I only get to see my little boy for a maximum of 3 hours on a weekday, and sometimes less if we get stuck in traffic longer than usual or he is tired and sleeps earlier. It is hardly enough time. And this is the core reason that drives me to want to be a mompreneur, so that I can control my own work schedule and have more quality time with the boy.
What about you? Are you happy being a working mother? I know many are, and I salute that. It’s really not easy juggling between a full time job, not to mention a demanding work environment where you need to manage your boss, peers and subordinates, then go back to manage the home, be a good mother and wife.

I wanted to be an entrepreneur too. I hate 9-to-5 job. I rather on my own project because I know that everything I do is for myself not for my boss. Cool post!
Hey,
I would love to spend more time with my girl too. I don’t mind a 9 – 1 job and spend the rest of the day with her. I don’t think I would want to spend 24 hours a day with her. I would still like to have my own social life with colleagues and friends and I think a half day job would be ideal. If only I could find one and afford to take it… sigh…
And yes, I hate those horrible traffic. My office is right in the golden triangle and I travel almost 3 hours each day. Sigh….
Make Money Online, totally agree with you that working for self is a lot more satisfying.
Amy, you can always work towards your ideal work schedule. But that will probably mean earning half or less of a permanent full time 9 to 5 job huh? I can also relate to your sitting for hours in jams in the heart of the city! Ditto!!
