Would you insure your body parts?

by Penny on August 10, 2009

I read with amusement in today’s Star Business section an article that talks about how celebrities and sports personalities insure their body parts for hefty sums (read the article here).

Well I guess it’s not new, we’ve all heard how much Jennifer Lopez was insuring one of her body parts for and how footballers have their legs insured too. I just didn’t think that the companies or managers of the sports personalities would take up insurance on the players, but apparently they do.

I guess it’s not wrong for people to want to do that. It’s a matter of preference and a feeling of security, right? Personally I just find it a big waste of money. Maybe it’s because I can’t afford a premium insurance policy on just one part of my body.

There’re enough basic insurance policies to pay for as it is - education plan, medical cards, disability insurance, and home and car insurance policies too. How else to pay for fancy what-have-you insurance policies?

I think for majority of people, we won’t even think about insuring any outstanding body parts of ours. Do you know any friends who do this?
