My 1 year old boy is currently on Enfapro A+. His eating patterns are 2 main meals of porridge during lunch and dinner, and in between he takes six to seven ounces of milk in intervals of about 3 hours. In the nighs, he sometimes wakes up twice for his milk fix. During the day, once in a while he is given snacks like biscuits and fruits too.
I thought this eating pattern is good enough but a recent visit to the paediatrician showed that he only gained 700 grams in 4 months. Though the doctor assured us that he is still alright because his growth charts show that he is still above the 50 percentile, I am a bit concerned that he may be losing weight rather than gaining at a period where he should be growing quickly.
I spoke to several mothers on this to see how their babies fared and what they did if they were in a similar situation. One mom shared with me that since she switched to Pediasure formula, within a month her baby gained quite a significant amount of weight. Her explanation to this is that Pediasure formula contains higher levels of proteins and fats. I have yet to compare the nutritional values of Enfapro against Pediasure, so I can’t confirm if this is true. Do other parents out there have similar experiences?
If this is found to be true and a sure way to beef up the boy, I also wonder if I should switch formula since he’s been so used to this. What are some of the issues of switching milk, if any? I’ve heard of stories where babies whose body systems are not used to certain milks tend to get some sort of reactions.
