It broke my heart to hear his cries

by Penny on July 30, 2008

This evening when we went to pick baby up from the babysitter’s place, he did something very unusual. He cried when I took him in my arms from the babysitter. He usually seems very happy to see us but in the last few days, I’ve noticed he doesn’t cheer up as much. And then today, he cried when he knew we were going home. He kept pointing at his babysitter, showing that he wanted to be carried by her instead.

What broke my heart isn’t the fact that he wanted the babysitter instead of us, but it was his cries. He has never cried in such a pitiful manner before. His tears flowed non-stop and he seemed utterly upset about leaving his babysitter.

You would think that as a mother I would feel sad that my baby prefers to stay with the babysitter. But you know what? In a way, it kinda warms my heart to know that baby is well loved by the babysitter, and that he feels close to her. He spends a lot more time with her than with us, seeing that he’s in her care for about 12 hours per weekday compared to seeing us for only 3 days on any given weekday.

I don’t know if he will behave the same way tomorrow when we pick him up after work. It’s such a torture seeing and hearing his cries. My poor little baby!

At least your care-givers seem to have established a strong bond with your child. Our son seems to just sleep through the day once we deposit him with the infant care centre. Something tells us he’s not being stimulated enough…

True, I should be thankful for that. A word of caution, you should check why your son sleeps through the day. Is he doing the same when he’s home with you during the weekends? If not, I will be very concerned!
