It was crazy at the Huggies Sale in Subang

by Penny on September 14, 2008

After seeing the sales alert from the Shopping & Sales website about the Huggies and Kotex stock clearance sale, I was all set to go this morning. It’s a sale that lasts only for today, and just half the day, starting at 9.30am until 1pm. The Huggies diapers and Kotex sanitary napkins where going dirt cheap.

Giving up a lazy Sunday morning lie-in, we all woke up early and headed towards Subang which isn’t exactly our next door neighbourhood. It was in some industrial area and when we neared the building, we saw many cars on the road. My guess was that every car in sight on that road must be headed towards the sale. Who would be out so early on Sunday morning in some industrial area?

As it turned out, I was right…all of us shared the same destination and objective of grabbing cheap diapers. Well at least that was my main objective.

When we got there, it was about 9.10am and I expected to see a long queue waiting to be let in on the sales when it opens. So in I went to join a large crowd but to my surprise, there wasn’t any queue at all. People were standing around haphazardly and it looked as if the sales had already begun. Stacks and stacks of diapers were placed on wooden palettes and I strolled past several until I came to one where the size of the diapers I wanted was stacked up. I was about to grab a couple of bags when a man then said to me “Excuse me, they are mine.”

I was utterly shocked because the entire palette was filled and stacked rather high with diapers, so much so that I thought those were the diapers on sale! I asked him if he can point to me where the diapers for sale were, and I was told that they were all sold out already! I looked around in utter disbelief…lots of people were standing next to boxes and palettes of diapers and those were actually their purchases. The area where the items were sold were completely empty of diapers and sanitary napkins. Nothing was left to buy. Not even a pathetic small bag of diaper!

I actually felt rather cheated that the sales had started before their stated time. It’s really unfair to those who went all the way there on a Sunday morning, thinking that they had a fair chance of buying, only to find that before the sales can even start, the staff had sold everything off.

Anyway, life is never fair…so we moved on to breakfast and grocery shopping. And later today I’ll just have to go buy some diapers at regular prices…

Hi Miu, wow, you sure start to plan early! But I suspect those diapers are probably very near expiry date, so that’s why they’re selling them cheap. Anyway, the gimmick sucks! :(
