It’s the song…

For some time now we have managed to establish a series of “sleeping songs” that put baby into the snoozing zone. Whether it’s his bedtime at night or just putting him down for an afternoon nap, we would sing these few songs one after another till he falls asleep. So whenever he hears these songs, he knows it’s time to sleep. And so far, he’s been good at keeping to this little practise.

Recently he stayed with his grandparents out of town for a week and when we took him home on Sunday, we found that he’s been very moody during bedtime and would fuss for quite a long time. He’s usually like that after returning from an extended stay with the grandparents. My thoughts on this would be because he’s had a change of routine since it was someone else looking after him and he’s confused. So we need to adjust him back to our normal routine. It would take some time, but he normally would get back to the routine.

It’s been a couple of days and he still hasn’t quite adjusted. Normally, from past experiences, he would’ve adjusted already by now, if not completely, at least he would be about half way there. So I wondered why this time round it’s taking him so long.

Then, by accident, we discovered the reason. It had to do with his sleeping songs. The songs that we sang to him didn’t work to make him sleep anymore. Instead, there’s a new song in place, and we’re quite surprised because it doesn’t even sound soothing. In fact, it sounds pretty lively!

I realised this when I suddenly recalled hearing his grandfather sing it to him once when he was trying to put the little one to sleep one night. I didn’t think much of it then, but I suppose he’s been introduced a new sleeping song without us knowing. Next time, we really should keep to the same songs or at least get updated about the change! It would’ve saved us a lot of fussing and crying the last couple of nights.

Anyway, the song that now makes my baby sleepy is Little Indian Boys. Yeah, you read it right. Go figure. :D
