Are kids extra sensitive to smell?

by Penny on July 6, 2010

Ryan is very sensitive towards smell and sometimes he can even throw up if we walk past some spot which happens to stink. Or when he needs to use the toilets at shopping malls, according to his daddy, he throws up too. Well I don’t blame him, I’m guessing it does smell really bad. Even ladies public toilets are hard for me to stomach sometimes.

Sometimes even the faintest scent in a room gets picked up by him and we don’t even notice it until he asks us what smell it is. I’m not even talking about the strong smelling pot pouri from Lovely Lace or the incense from www.redenvelope.com.

He’s even sensitive with his pillow and bolster cases. When we change the cases, he doesn’t enjoy hugging and snuggling up to it as much as a “seasoned” pillow and bolster which smells of him.

It makes me wonder if kids are extra sensitive with their nose? Are your kids the same way?
