Lactose allergy or tummy virus?

by Penny on January 7, 2008

Baby had diarrhea a couple days ago. We brought him to the paed and he was put on a lactose-free formula to help settle his tummy. Doc said he’s got a virus attacking his tummy and that explains the immediate “outflow” following each feeding.

Once we put him on this special lactose-free formula and medication, he was fine. He finished the formula is just about 3 days and we put him back on his normal milk powder. But immediately, he started showing signs of diarrhea again! So we quickly bought another tin of the lactose-free milk and he’s now fine again.

I’m wondering now…is it the lactose he’s allergic to or could the virus still be attacking him?

We’ll be bringing him for his next check-up in 2 days, I guess we will find out then. It will be a second opinion as it is a different paed we’re seeing.
