Mussel and scallop porridge for baby

by Penny on August 25, 2008

Some months ago, I asked our babysitter if it’s safe for baby to consume dried mussels. She wasn’t too sure about it. Our babysitter is very careful about what to feed baby so we often check with her if some food stuff are fine for baby.

Since mom had already bought the dried mussels, we thought we’d just try and cook a little at a time for baby. We only use it once at most twice a week in his porridge. Baby takes fish porridge everyday and over the weekend, I like to give him a break and cook him something different instead.

So last weekend, he had mussel and scallop porridge with some carrots. I used 2 dried mussels and about 1 dried scallop. They were put to boil in a pot of water for about 45 minutes before chopped up carrots were put into the pot to boil too.

The mussel and scallop porridge is sweet tasting. I think baby rather enjoys this compared to his daily fish porridge. Sure it is a little fishy in taste, but the sweetness makes up for it. I don’t feed baby the mussels and scallops so I end up eating it myself!
