Yesterday’s papers featured a story of a 10-year old boy, Yeap Jia Hui, whose mother had abandoned him and is currently living with a grandaunt. His grandaunt has recently come forward to say that she is considering giving him up for adoption or to a children’s home because she is unable to care for him due to health reasons. It was a rather sad story, coupled with a picture of the sweet-looking boy.
But today, it was very warm to read that many Malaysians have taken the initiative to show their interest in either adopting Jia Hui as their son or offering financial aid to see him through his education. Even children’s homes are offering shelter to him.
A child is so vulnerable without his or her parents. I wonder what drives parents to act so irresponsibly as to abandone their own flesh and blood, whom they brought into this world. Parents are supposed to love and nurture them and not resort to selfish acts and dessert their children whatever the reasons that drive them to do so.
Anyway, I do hope that Jia Hui will end up where he deserves, to be surrounded with love of a family and proper food, shelter and most importantly an education to see him through. You can read Jia Hui’s story here.

very sad story. how bout asking brangelina if they want another child for adoption?
Sad indeed, but thankfully there are many compassionate Malaysians. Good idea, the brangelina home is indeed quite a children’s home!
