Last week wasn’t quite a good week for us. Ryan fell ill 2 weekends ago and I was worried for those few days that he had a fever. For a few nights I didn’t get good sleep because I was worried that he’ll develop high fever in the middle of the night. Thankfully, it wasn’t like that. But Ryan did wake up a lot because he felt uncomfortable with a blocked nose and his cough was irritating him as well. Whenever he tried to cough out the phlegm, he would vomit. The poor boy.
But now he’s alright, with no fever anymore. His running nose is slight and we hardly hear him cough already. He’s no longer under medication as I found that it made him weak. The medication is supposed to make him drowsy and sleepy, but knowing Ryan, he just refused to rest and sleep even when drowsy and tired! As a result, he had red swollen eyes and it made my heart ache to see him like that. He’s much better off with no medication at the moment.
That was one negative event that happened to us last week. But it wasn’t the end of it for me. Sometime in the middle of the week, as I was rushing to go to work, I broke a Pyrex cover which belongs to Ryan’s nanny. Luckily the glass pieces didn’t get me. I felt pretty bad for breaking something that doesn’t belong to me, so I need to go shopping for a replacement although the babysitter tells me it’s okay. I don’t feel nice, you know what I mean? That’s why I’m waiting up for that Pyrex warehouse sale that’s coming up in early December to try to find one at a more affordable price.
Then, on the same morning that I broke the Pyrex cover, I met with an accident. A car swerved into my lane and luckily I managed to get out of its way a little, which resulted in the car banging into the back of my car. The bang sounded very loud and impactful at that moment and I was thinking it must be pretty damaging to the car. But thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. The worse thing that happened from the accident is that the fella who hit me just ran off! So I gotta foot the repair bill by myself. I haven’t found out how much the auto accessories and the repair works will cost me though.
I’m just wondering if my streak of “bad luck” is over yet. People say bad things happen in 3s. So can I consider all the above 3 bad things already? Maybe I should and then the case is closed! Does it work that way?

At 2 years old, I’m pretty impressed that Ryan has learned to compromise with me. I didn’t realise it until he suggested terms with me and I found myself agreeing. Then when I stop and think about it, I realised that he was actually offering me a compromise.
Most of the time, it’s us who will be suggesting things to compromise on, for example if he agrees to finish up his meal then we will offer him his favourite mangosteen juice. Ok, you can call that a bribe too because it does sound like one. But I take it as an understanding of a compromise
But now he’s able to offer me back his terms. Last night I was using a wet towel to wipe him down because he was having a fever. He doesn’t like to be sponged with a wet towel but I told him he had to endure it anyway because it is good for him.
He thought about it for a while and he said “Ok but you don’t wipe my neck ok?” to which I readily agreed. Then this morning I told him I will take him to the doctor so that he can be prescribed some medicine to get well. At first he was quite happy to pay his doctor a visit but when the time came nearer to see the doc, he backed out and said he wanted to get out of there.
After persuading him to stay for a while more so that I can get medication for him, he said “Mummy, I don’t want to open mouth and doctor shine the light”. He has always hated the part when he’s asked to open up his mouth so the doctor can check his throat. My poor little baby.
It is indeed unfortunate that I have only taken notice of Ryan’s compromising “skill” during this time when he’s unwell…although thrilled at knowing he’s learned this trait, it isn’t the best of time for me to be beaming proudly as we nurse him back to health.
As the grandma is away in India, I’m sure she’ll be reading this post and must be feeling heart sick that her precious grandson is down with flu. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine in a few days
He’ll be well enough in no time to chat with grandma on some live chat software just like he did with his grand-aunties on MSN

I don’t know why but of late I find myself rather clumsy, forgetful, and up to the point of being quite blur! Far from the alert and organised person I used to be, I now easily forget where I park my car, lose my parking ticket and pay RM50 to get out of the mall, forget to do some important stuff like paying the bills on time, etc.
I can’t find any justification for them, other than having a worse off memory now. What causes bad memory anyway? I believe I’m still too young to be losing my memory so quickly
Maybe it used to help that I used PDAs to set appointments and reminders. Now I use a manual organiser where there are no alarms to be set for reminders. I know I can count on using the phone’s reminder feature but I get lazy to key stuff into the phone. That explains why I quit using the PDAs too. Writing it down on paper seems easier and faster.
Sometimes I do wonder if I can attribute my poor memory now to the use of epidural. It’s known to be one of the possible side effects. I sure wouldn’t want that to be true but I just wonder if it could be…
Having said that, I found this little saying and I thought maybe it could be true…what say you?

Vanity talk first thing in the morning…This is a question especially for mummies, do you still have that flat or almost flat tummy you used to have before the babies came along?

I have to confess that I didn’t have a totally flat one to begin with, but it’s not exactly an aim to have a totally flat one now. I guess it’s quite impossible since I don’t exercise or watch my diet, so I know I shouldn’t be asking how to lose belly fat fast, but just want to know what is a more moderate way to achieve a flatter tummy. Note the term “flatter” and not flat. Haha!
I know some people say it’s actually impossible to have a flat tummy after birth but is that true? I’m sure some of those celebs have flat tummies, whether they’ve had some jobs done is something we all don’t know. But can workouts and diets help to achieve that? Any mummies has any experience in this? Any magic formula?

Over lunch today we were talking about how kids these days have such easy access to computers and the world of internet. Whether they are out at internet cafes or using their parents’ netbooks at home, kids these days are pretty heavy users of internet.
Not only are they exposed to too much information that parents wish them to stay away from, they are also potential victims to many social ills and threats. We’ve all read of the many scams where people lose money, some younger kids are tricked to meet with internet “friends” and untoward incidents occur, etc.
So how do you regulate your children’s use of the computer and internet? I know of some parents who block certain websites and some who do not give passwords to log on to the internet. But children being so resourceful these days, they can still get access to internet through other means, not necessarily from home.
How seriously do you view the internet as a dangerous thing for kids? At the moment I’m still not too worried as Ryan is only 2 and not exposed to computers and internet yet. So I haven’t started thinking how I can control the use of these elements. But I bet one fine day, my turn will come to start looking for solutions to this matter.

Now that I’ve bitten the bullet, there are quite a few things I have to think about in terms of protection. Some of the benefits that come with a job are medical and protection policies paid by the employer. Now that I will have none of them, I have to start thinking about having them on my own. I do have some insurance policies in place but not a medical one for myself.
To many people this may not be an important aspect, but I think over time, you may realise that it is one of the most important things to have. As it is, we have so many kinds of threats going on around us nowadays as compared to just 10 to 15 years ago. So all the more I think it is important to re-look at some of these things now to see how best I can apply some protection for myself and the family.
Time to shop and compare life insurance quotes now. Anyone has any recommendations for good plans?
