Passive learning

All the while, we play an active role in teaching baby things, whether to speak, walk, actions, etc, we always need to firstly engage his attention in order for us to impart knowledge. But now, I found that he learns even without us engaging him.

He’s learning words as he hears them from our conversations. I noticed that he started doing this about 2 days back. While we talk between ourselves, he is actually listening and picking up a random word here and there. How I knew he was doing this is that he repeated the same word he heard right back to us immediately after we said it. At first I was quite shocked but I soon realised that we have to be careful to use the right words from now on!

One of the words which I’m quite happy he picked up from our conversation is the word “Happy”. He pronounces it rather well, but of course he doesn’t know the meaning of it. It’s also hard for us to teach him what happy means at this moment. So we’ll just let him ramble on, using the happy word however he wants.

He’s also learned to say Amen and when he says this, he puts his palms together. We taught him this and he’s quite happy to do it every now and then. But he finds it funny, and each time he does it he will laugh. Oh well, doesn’t matter if it sounds funny to him right now.

So the best words we brought out of him last weekend are happy and Amen. Both are very important in life, isn’t it? I’m glad he’s starting young to absorb these words in his life.
