The paed went on to prescribe something a little stronger which contains steroids to be applied on the heat rash as well as the rough patches. The cream is called Elomet. When I heard the word “steroids”, I had a mental shut down on this cream. I didn’t want to expose my few months old baby on such a drug. So we took the prescribed cream home and did not use it.
We were advised to apply a thin layer every time, and it is to be applied only once a day. We do this at bedtime so that he doesn’t get a chance to rub it off. After about 3 nights of doing this, his condition improved significantly. Before the week was up, his heat rash and rough patches were gone! It’s been many months since then and baby’s eczema has been very much under control. But whenever we spot any signs of rough patches, we immediately apply Elomet and usually the patch would clear the very next day.
I must also admit that there are other things that we used that have helped to maintain his skin condition. To keep his skin moisturised at all times, the paed recommended that we use mild and safe moisturisers on him. I was recommended to use the Sebamed Baby Facial Protective Cream for his face and Sebamed Baby Cream for all parts of his body. I also use the Sebamed Baby Liquid Cleanser for his bath. However, a more effective bath product that helps in keeping away eczema and psoriasis for that matter, is the Eubos Cream Bath Oill for babies. I absolutely love this product not only because it helped in his skin condition, but also because it leaves his skin soft, smooth and supple.
After seeing the results with my own eyes, I would highly recommend the Elomet cream and the Eubos Cream Bath Oil if you are trying to combat a skin condition. However, do remember to use the Elomet cream sparingly. I’ve heard that this cream is available at pharmacies (to be prescribed by a pharmacist) but you may want to consult your doctor and get a proper prescription for it.
