Some months back I bought a tube of Buds MozzieClear Lotion which is a mosquito repellent meant for use on babies and young children. Buds is known to carry safe and gentle products for children and babies so I didn’t hesitate much about buying it then, especially so when I saw that there were some discounts offered at the store.
Does Buds MozzieClear Lotion work well as a mosquito repellent for kids? It does indeed and I’m very happy with it. Below is my review of this effective mosquito repellent for children.

Buds MozzieClear Lotion contains these active ingredients: Fructan, meadowfoam, seed oil, squalane oil, citronella oil, jojoba oil, beta glucan and portulaca extract.
This lotion not only acts as a mosquito repellent but also a moisturiser. It also helps in preventing skin irritation and inflammation caused by pollutants and chemicals. With this, I believe it is a safe product to be used on babies and children’s skin in general. However, if your child has any skin problems or eczema, you may want to try this product out on a small area of the skin first before applying it all over the body.
This lotion spreads quite easily on the skin and is non-greasy. It absorbs well into the skin upon application. So far, so good. However, I don’t quite like the smell of the citronella element, but that’s just my personal thing because I generally do not like the smell of lemon grass very much.
As for how well it works as a mosquito repellent, I would have to say it’s satisfactory. I say this based not only on spreading this on Ryan but I too had a try at it. After applying the lotion on Ryan, the palm of my hand had some remnants of the cream and instead of washing it off, I just rubbed it on my legs.
That’s when I noticed how effective this Buds cream is in repelling mosquitoes. I was in an area where mosquitoes were lingering at my feet, waiting to land on me. I watched them flying about my legs and it was quite unbelievable that the mosquitoes did not land on my legs at all!
As I watched some more, I noticed that one mosquito found its way to my toes. I realised then that I didn’t apply any lotion on my toes and that’s where the mosquito found an opening for a quick bite!
So you see, just a very thin and light layer of this mosquito repellent is good enough to make mosquitoes stay away. This was proven with just that little bit of remnants of the cream on my palms that I applied on myself.
I don’t remember how much I paid for this MozzieClear Lotion. I think the price is around RM20+. It may seem a bit expensive, but it’s worth the money if it works well and safe for your children. Furthermore, I don’t dare to apply the mosquito repellents made for adults on children. I feel safer with something that is made just for children.
Buds products are not that widely available so it’ll be a bit tough to find them in our regular pharmacies like Guardian or Watson. I bought some of the Buds products at Babyland in SS2. Below are some of the places where you can find Buds products.

With dengue cases on the rise these days, I think it’s best we take some precaution and protect our loved ones from unwanted illnesses. So give this repellent a try if you are looking for something safe and effective to keep your kids clear of mosquito bites and worse yet, contracting the deadly dengue fever.
