Over lunch today we were talking about how kids these days have such easy access to computers and the world of internet. Whether they are out at internet cafes or using their parents’ netbooks at home, kids these days are pretty heavy users of internet.
Not only are they exposed to too much information that parents wish them to stay away from, they are also potential victims to many social ills and threats. We’ve all read of the many scams where people lose money, some younger kids are tricked to meet with internet “friends” and untoward incidents occur, etc.
So how do you regulate your children’s use of the computer and internet? I know of some parents who block certain websites and some who do not give passwords to log on to the internet. But children being so resourceful these days, they can still get access to internet through other means, not necessarily from home.
How seriously do you view the internet as a dangerous thing for kids? At the moment I’m still not too worried as Ryan is only 2 and not exposed to computers and internet yet. So I haven’t started thinking how I can control the use of these elements. But I bet one fine day, my turn will come to start looking for solutions to this matter.
