Ryan talks about baby

by Penny on July 14, 2011

We’ve been keeping Ryan informed about expecting a baby in time to come. At first I really wasn’t sure if he gets it, to me it felt like he thought it’s a cool game to have a baby in the tummy. One of his first questions about the baby is whether the baby in my tummy has its own baby in his/her tummy. What a strange question, I thought. But children do think very differently.

Whilst he seems very excited about the fact that he’s going to be a big brother, I still wonder if he really knows what it means. To him, being a big brother is equivalent to being a leader, which I no doubt know that he likes. We’ll need to educate him that it’s more than just being a leader.

The other day the daddy told him that he’s off to badminton. Then Ryan said he will stay home to protect the 3 ladies. Asked who the three ladies are, he said mummy, grandma and baby sister. Sweet, isn’t it?

But the same night when I was putting him to bed, he suddenly asked me if I will love him more than the baby. I didn’t expect this kind of questions to come from him at this very stage, when I thought he still hasn’t quite comprehended the whole thing. But it looks like he may understand more than I give him credit for.

Then this morning while I was lazing in bed with him, he asked me “Mummy, where’s your baby?” And I replied “Right here (touching him), you’re my baby”. Then he said “No, my sister”. Quite cute of him I must say.

I look forward to more talks about the baby as I think it is a good idea to get him as involved as possible in the whole pregnancy and subsequently when the two siblings meet. I’m sure along the way I’m gonna have lots to learn, not just for Ryan!

Ryan is so sweet. I guess he will need time to adjust to his baby sister. You’re lucky he is big enough to help :)

Thanks very much Rachel, I hope to smooth it out! :P

Amy, we don’t know the gender of the baby, still way too early to tell. He just thought it’s a girl. But now he has changed his mind. Lately he’s been telling me it’s a boy in there!

Adino, I guess we’re really lucky in that sense, I only hope he helps out and not take the sibling as a new toy! Hahaha…

Sukie, thanks! :D
