Safety first, but how?

By now, baby is able to stand steadily while holding onto the sides of the playpen that’s also his bed. When I need to attend to things, I’ve always felt safe leaving him in there to play by himself with an occassional peek at him to make sure he’s alright.
But now, he’s learned to climb the playpen and he’s gotten to the point of almost tipping over and falling off! He’s done that twice and thankfully both the times he was under our watchful eyes where we managed to pull him away before he fell.
We don’t know what to do now, in terms of not being able to leave him there without close supervision. I won’t even dare to leave him to sleep in there in the nights. He usually stirs in the middle of the night or early morning, and I’m afraid he’ll start climbing while we’re still deep in slumber. So now we rather let him sleep in his sarong the whole night through.
What do other parents out there do when your littles ones reach this stage?

GOt to be careful too. Babies can climb or wriggle out of sarongs. One thing you can do is to leave a soft mattress under the sarong and set the saring lower to the ground.
This is easier with pampers for in the old days, when the baby takes a leak in the night it all lands on the floor. And you need many sarongs too.
Good luck.
Yupe, lowered the sarong and the mattress underneath it is folded in two so that it’s double the buffer!
