Two days ago Ryan turned 2 years old. The night before his birthday, when we were putting him to bed, we explained that the next day was his birthday and that we were going to celebrate his special day. We said he will be king for a day and he grinned.
After he had gone to bed, I placed his wrapped up birthday gift under a small table in the room. When he woke up the next morning, I pretended to be still asleep to see what he would get up to do. In that semi-darkness, he saw the huge box under his playing table and he slowly and quietly dragged it out.
Then he came to me and woke me up. “Mummy, what is this?” he asked, to which I smiled, wished him Happy Birthday, kissed and hugged him and explained that it was his birthday present from me. I asked if he would like to open it and see what’s inside and he happily said yes. So I helped him tear off the wrapper and opened the box.
It’s a Bob The Builder tool set with a helmet and a tool belt that has several different audio recordings from Bob The Builder. He was quite thrilled with the gift and spent the morning playing with it for a while before I had to set out to work. Ryan and his daddy spent the morning together for a while. Father and son went out to breakfast at McDonald’s because the daddy had promised to bring him there.
After that he went to the babysitter’s home for the day and waited for us to pick him up for his birthday dinner celebration after work. Dinner was a small affair with just some family members, Ryan’s God-parents and his babysitter couple. He had a gala time. I believe the rest of us did too.
After dinner, when we came home, Ryan opened the rest of his presents and he enjoyed every single one of them. What he remembers most of his birthday was blowing out the candle on his cake. He still enjoys talking about blowing out the candle until now

We got him another jelly cake this year. He wanted a Pooh bear one so we got him this.
Now if you ask him if he’s enjoyed his birthday, he would surely agree he did. And he even says that on his birthday he was the King of Kings! Not just a king! Haha. I’m so flattered to be a mother of a King of Kings.
How time has gone by…my little one is already 2 years old. Before I know it, he would be of school-going age and I would need a few more wrinkle creams to cover those fine lines as I smile with joy at each of his birthday celebration…

I do think it was a sweet day for him alright, being pampered with balloons at the babysitter’s during the day!
Col, yes time really flies. Never realised it. Thanks too on behalf of little Ryan for the birthday wishes.
Amy, started planning for the birthday already or not? Hey you remember those cupcakes you ordered last time? I actually have some free ones from Audrey whom I told I wanted to give to you for Hayley. So if you’re ordering again from her, please go get the free cupcakes!
