I can’t wait till Christmas to show the little boy all the much talked about and beautiful Christmas lights and decorations in Singapore. I doubt he will comprehend how beautiful they are, but I’m sure he can tell it’s a super colourful and brightly lit street in the night, fill with things that he can now identify with, like Santa Claus, Christmas tree and even a snowman. Well, that is if Singapore decides to have a Christmas theme that will feature any of those objects!
Nevertheless, I’m so excited about the very idea of bringing him out of the country for the first time. It’s probably only me who’s so hyped about it. In my excitement, I didn’t realise some of the things I forgot to think about, until a few minutes ago.
Do we bring along his sarong since he has much difficulties falling asleep on the bed? It’s going to be one big item to pack along all across the border! Food wise, he’s currently on home cooked porridge for lunch and dinner, with milk feeds and other snacks in between the day. But while we are there, I’m not sure about using the cooking facilities at our friends’ home. The couple has so kindly offered us their home to stay over, but I’m just a bit concerned that I might be making myself too comfortable should I stock up on food stuff in their fridge and cook for the boy every morning. I’m sure they will say it’s alright if I ask, but I just don’t want to be an inconvenience to them, you know what I mean? So how?!
We’ll also definitely be bringing along the pram to push baby around although I suspect he will very much demand to be put on his own two feet. We’re so used to having the use of a car here that we have not really pushed a pram around and trying to manuovre it about at train stations. And in Singapore, the trains are the most common and convenient mode of transport, right? I wonder how we’re going to battle the heavy crowds for the very first time with our pram!
And then there’s the matter of the car seat. When we are there, we will be moving about sometimes on our own (hence the use of the MRT), and of course spending time with our friends too. Our friends have a car and if we were to travel in their car, what about the use of a baby seat for the boy? Doesn’t that mean we’ve got to bring the car seat into Singapore and strap it on to our friends’ car? It looks pretty much that way, doesn’t it?
It looks like we have a lot to bring over for just a couple of days of holiday in the land next door to us. A whole lot of overwhelming baby stuff! How do other people do it? Am I thinking too much into things and bringing in unnecessary baby stuff into Singapore?

My first venture out of the country was to Chieng Mai and I did not have any of those things you mentioned.
The kid was so tired, it did not matter where he slept. And then I could not cook, so I got jar food. Don’t attempt to try them cause it tastes awful – but to the kid, it’s great! We took the stroller, but did not use it, the kid was so excited, he chose to run or sit on the father’s shoulders – more view. Car seat ah? No wor, sit on the lap lor …
But in the first place, does he normally sleep on the bed? With my boy, no matter how tired he is, any inviting bed just doesn’t work on him!
I’ve tried those jar food on him and he doesn’t quite like them either. He prefers things like biscuits and bread. Eh, in Spore, I think we’ll be fined if we get caught for letting him sit on our lap, no?
I’m a stroller mummy….Hahahaha… can’t leave home w/o a stroller though my maid can carried him in a bundled up sarong.
But, you’ll be thankful for bringing it along later on to Spore ! Put two “S” shape hooks on the stroller handle so you can hang your diaper bags or small items on it.
The only setback is..if you’re a stroller newbie and can’t find lift at the mall. And the only thing you can do is to balance your stroller on the escalator to go either up or down. And you’re so nervous as people are waiting in line at your back to go on the escalator too ! Practice makes perfect.
I used to bring my son’s empty stroller to the mall to purposely train on balancing it on the escalator. Now…I can say that I’m pro ady…Hehehehe
As much as I can’t do without a stroller, he now refuses to sit in one for long. He’s ok when the father pushes him around in the pram, but if I were to do so, he’ll insist on being carried. Erm…I’m quite ashamed to say that until now, I can’t manouvre the pram up and down escalators. I can only do it when the pram is empty! Hahahaha…And I use those “S” hooks too, they are great for shopping bags!
