Standing tall

by Penny on May 28, 2008

Baby has mastered crawling quite well by now. He’s quick as a fox and it scares us that he’ll reach the end of the bed faster than we can get there to stop him from falling.

Now he’s on to something new – standing on his own two feet. He would pull himself up whenever he gets a chance to hold on to something, whether it’s the edge of his playpen, the wall, the headboard of the bed, the mother…just whatever he can grab onto for some support.

Once he’s on his feet, he’s quite wobbly. I worry so much that he’ll fall and hurt himself. I normally have to stand right by him to catch him in case he does fall. He tends to let go of whatever his support is and that’s very dangerous because he’ll fall flat either on his face or backwards.

I thought the crawling thing was going to keep me busy watching over him from falling or bumping into things. But this standing up thing is keeping my eyes even more focused all the time!

Parents out there, how do you cope with this and how is it that you help your baby stand more firmly and steadily?
