Subang Parade is very baby friendly

by Penny on April 12, 2008

I’ve been visiting Subang Parade since I was just a kid. Now, years later, it has been recently refurbished and it looks very much nicer than before. I hear there is going to be an expansion of the shopping mall starting next year too.

While I have never appreciated the long rams leading up or down to the next floor all around the building, I appreciate them very much now. It means that I get to push baby around in his pram from one floor to another without depending on the lifts. I also don’t use the escalators if I’m alone with the baby because I’m not strong enough to hold onto the pram with baby in it.

When I arrived at the mall, the first thing I did was to look for a baby room because baby needed a change of diaper and I needed to wash his milk bottle. I soon found one on the Ground Floor. Here at Subang Parade, the baby room is labelled as Mother’s Room. Not sure if the fathers can bring babies in!

Anyway, I was very surprised that it’s so nicely done up and it’s very spacious. You need to press a button and the door slides open. I don’t know why but it gave me a very Star Trek feeling, haha! Once in there, there is a reception counter where you’re supposed to register. I’m not sure why it is required but when I entered, there was no one at the counter so I just went ahead to check out the place.

It has a nice play corner with comfortable seats for parents to rest in while their kids have some fun. There are also three separate feeding rooms and four foldable changing tables with proper diaper disposal bins. At the end of the room, you will find a WC where there are two toilets in it so that you can bring your little one in there too!

You will also find a microwave and kitchen sink in the Mother’s Room. Since microwaving milk/formula is not recommended, I think it’s more appropriate to use it for warming up food stuff for toddlers.

Little things go a long way. I’ve been to places where it’s not baby friendly at all, so I appreciate all the thoughts that go into making a place baby friendly and easy for parents to shop.

Yep..i love going to malls with baby-friendly places too..especially those with nursing places. Some which still in my memories are the ones at Midvalley, KLCC, and recently i found the ones at IOI Mall Jusco….not so much on the nursing place but I am impressed they have a sitting high-chair like installed on their wall…on a mother’s toilet..as I remembered my friend describe to me her discomfort having to bring in the pram with her dotter when she had emergencies… ;)

Yeah I tend to agree about pushing in the pram into toilets. The Curve’s baby room is not bad too, except that it’s a bit small and needs more ventilation. Imagine when 2 or 3 sets of parents are in there dealing with poo! :P
