The other day I wrote about how my little boy likes to play with masak-masak. May I also add that he loves soft toys too! He’s got plenty of them, so much so that they are filling up his playpen and he hardly has much space to walk about in it. He started with his favourite Ikea teddy that resembles Mr. Bean’s brown bear, and his collection grew to include lots of other bears as well as Mickey, Elmo, Ernie, Sponge Bob, some McDonald’s teddy collections, and a couple more.
Many think that it’s strange that a boy would light up at seeing his soft toys. He would even reach for one and then hug and kiss it. Once in a while, you will also see him dragging one of his soft toys while he’s busily walking up and down the room. Do you think it’s alright for boys to enjoy soft toys much like how girls love them?
Or do you think boys should be given a toy gun, a car toy, a rock tumbler, an action hero figurine like Ultraman, Lego building blocks and the likes that all supposedly define a boy? I’m rather open about his preference for toys and don’t seem to mind what he plays with as long as he’s enjoying himself.

Yea, no reason to restrict the things he likes. I think it is better no stereotype on the things what a baby boy should o should not play..
i guess it’s okay for your little boy to play masak-masak and soft toys. my boys grew up playing soft toys, lego, matchbox cars and lots of books. they even have one set of masak-masak. the items that my dh and i didn’t get for them are toy guns and toy figurines that promote fighting element
Its fine…whatever he’s comfy with…when I was a baby/toddler/younger, my toys were remote control cars, Thundercats figurines and I used to save my Angpows to buy Transformers stuffs. My mom will give away my masak masak to my cousin brother as he prefers them. He has grown up to be a macho man now, and he will definitely kill me if I tell ppl he used to take my masak masak to play…hahahaha
Elaine, I agree with you about not stereotyping toys according to gender too
Ai-Ling, I’m also not getting him any toys that are weapon-like. But as he grows older, I’m not sure if he’ll start asking for things like toy guns.
Evelyne, haha, you’re revealing his secret right here!! I suppose we shouldn’t categorise toys according to “his” and “hers”, huh?
You grew up just fine and into such a lady too!
