No one?! Really? Mmmm…I did

Brought Ryan to watch the movie since we promised him another movie since his first one at Shrek recently. This time he reminded us over and over to get him popcorn for movie time.

As usual we went equipped with his little bolster and a small blankie to keep him warm. But as it turned out, we didn’t really need it because it was a full house and so the screening room was pretty cozy with so many warm bodies.

Toy Story 3 was very entertaining. It was funny, it was touching and memorable. At least it was all that for me and honestly, I won’t mind watching it again. But when I asked Ryan if he wanted to watch it again, he said no. Hmm…

Mummy: Ryan, did you like the show?

Ryan: Yes (with a big smile)

Mummy: Did you understand the show?

Ryan: No

Mummy: Do you want to watch it again?

Ryan: No…

But do you know what he’s eyeing to watch next? Karate Kid. No kidding.

Who cried watching Toy Story 3?

Ryan loves watching Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, the show about a little Chinese girl named Kai-Lan and her grandpa and friends. Actually I encourage him to watch it too because the show teaches children some basic Mandarin words one episode at a time. The songs are pretty catchy and fun too and he’s shown quite a bit of interest in learning them and even wants to find Ni Hao, Kai-Lan books to read.

Unfortunately, the show only starts at 10.30am on weekdays on Nickelodeon. It’s a bit too late for him to catch as we have to send him to the babysitter’s place so that we can get on with work. At the babysitter’s place, there’s no Nickelodeon channel for him so he tends to miss this show.

The only solution I thought of is to get him some Ni Hao, Kai-Lan DVDs so that he can watch them anytime he wants. The challenge is that I don’t see this show being sold at shops that offer lots of other children’s educational cartoons.

Anyone knows where to get this show on VCD or DVD in Malaysia? In a desperate attempt, I decided to buy from Amazon.com but upon check out I was informed that those particular items I ordered cannot be sent to Malaysia. How disappointing. So I don’t know where else to find it.

A few weeks back we brought Ryan to the movies for the first time. He didn’t have a clue what a movie is, neither did he understand what cinema meant. But all that was before he stepped foot into one.

When we saw that the final Shrek was showing at the cinema, we thought it was a great time to start introducing him to the movie. Before we brought him there, I made sure to expose him to some Shrek movies in case he may not like the show after all if he watched it for the first time at the movies.

So I bought him the first Shrek movie on CD and he totally enjoyed it. Thanks to his aunt, he also has a Shrek figurine from McDonald’s Happy Meal It’s a really precious toy to him.

He was captivated by the beautiful Princess Fiona but at the end of the show when she chose to be an ogre forever, he was a little upset and said he didn’t want to watch it again because the pretty girl turned into the green thing!

In any case, I didn’t give up and bought him the second sequel and he watched it anyway. When asked whether he preferred the first or second Shrek, he still liked the first one. Actually, so did we. The only thing that was funny in the second one was Puss In Boots.

So after we have gauged his interest in Shrek, we finally told him that we will go to the movies and watch the final one. We skipped the third sequel actually. But it didn’t matter, we enjoyed ourselves anyway.

Ryan was quite anxious about going to the cinema since we spoke so much about it. The day that we had the movie date, he even told his babysitter that he wanted to take his nap earlier that day because we were going to pick him up early so that we can go for the movie Good boy he was!

When we got there that night, he was treated to some popcorn for the first time too. He sure did have the full-fledge feel of being at the cinema Throughout the movie he sat still and comfortably (we brought his favourite bolster and a small blanket to keep him warm and fuzzy). He asked some questions once in a while and he laughed often too. There was one particular part that he laughed so loudly and quite long too, that someone from the front seat turned around to see the kiddo who was laughing so hard. Real cute.

It wasn’t just him who enjoyed the cinema experience, I think we all did. Not just the show, but seeing how he enjoyed himself too. He wants to go again and we’ve agreed. The next show we will bring him for is Toy Story 3. I think he’ll enjoy that one as well. I know I will

Bob The Builder is one of Ryan’s favourite character for a while now. He watches the shows, has some books and even a Bob soft toy. I also bought him a Bob The Builder tool set that comes with a tool belt and construction hat so that he too can “dress up” to be a Bob The Builder.

But lately, whenever Ryan sees anyone wearing the yellow construction hat, he would say they are Bob The Builder. So we’ve been seeing quite a lot of Bobs around.

When we recently passed by a door hardware shop, we saw lots of those construction hats on sale and Ryan kept telling me there were lots of Bob The Builder hats. I guess these yellow helmets now have a brand name too, thanks to this cartoon character.

Are your kids also fans of Bob? I have to say I do quite like Bob, he looks rather cute and bubbly. I prefer him to Handy Manny. And I think Ryan feels the same.

Have you heard that there’s a Dolphins & Sea Lions Show in Malaysia? It’s held at Bandar Sunway in Subang, right next to Sunway Pyramid. It started on December 1st and if I remember correctly, it ends sometime in February 2010.

We brought Ryan to see the show and here’s our experience.

Parking was a big problem unless you decide to park in the Sunway Pyramid mall and then take a walk to the built-up tent where the show is held. Admission fee for a Malaysian adult is RM42. I think a child above the age of 3 enters for RM30. Children below the age of 3 can go in free of charge. If you go in a family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 children, then you get a family package where everyone is charged at RM30 each. The show lasts about 45 minutes.

It’s really hot inside when we were there. We went for the 3.30pm show so I guess that’s not the best of times to go. I don’t remember the show times, but I think there are 3 or 4 shows a day. So if you want to be more comfortable with your kids, go for the evening show. I think it’s around 7pm if I remember correctly.

So did we enjoy the show? It was quite alright. A bit on the expensive side, if you ask me. But it’s an experience for Ryan to see dolphins and sea lions up close and personal. We brought some cookies and Honey Star cereals with us so he was munching on them half the time throughout the show. Must be his version of being at a cinema

The host of the show speaks only in BM, so don’t expect much explanation in English. He does dress up quite extremely too but then again, you are there to watch the dolphins so don’t get sidetracked! Haha.
