Ryan is an early bird who catches the worms…he wakes up before any of us and definitely before our alarm clocks are set to ring in the mornings. Whether it’s a work day or a weekend, he wakes up at the same time. When he’s up, he starts playing. Of course, what else would you expect a child his age to do, right?

This morning he was up at his usual hour and he went about playing on his own while we half-consciously tried to watch him with sleepy eyes and trying to keep the ears open to listen out for what he’s doing.

Then I heard his final wake up call for me…”Mummy, wake up. Sit here play with boy boy” and my reply was “Ohh….” but I didn’t get up.

All was quite after that and he didn’t come back to bug me to wake up. After a while I thought it was quite unusual. He would normally come bug me until one of us wake up and play with him. So I got up to see what Ryan was up to.

Guess what he was doing…

This is my colourful and transparent sticky strips…

…which I use to mark pages to KIV in books

Ryan used them as stickers to stick all over his colouring book!

He would’ve gone on to peel each and every piece of those sticky strips out had I not woken up to stop him. So the next time he wakes me up to play and I doze off again, I better be prepared for a very colourful room when I wake up! This time it could be the easy to remove stickers, next time it could be his colour pencils on the walls!

This is what happens when you ignore your son’s wake up call to play

I’m terrible at drawing and anything that has to do with art. When I was young, I would draw an animal and my mom commented it looked like any other animal except for what I had set out to draw. Once, I drew something and mum said it looked like a cat, could pass off as a goat, maybe even a dog, and I don’t remember what else. The only thing it couldn’t pass off as was a snake, and that’s only because of the 4 legs attached to that drawing of mine. Mum also never failed to remind me to this day how my drawing of a huge telephone that was placed on a very small table was very amusing to her.

Back then I didn’t think it was funny that I sucked in art. But now I do. Now that I find it hilarious that I’m so terrible in arts, I proudly declare myself the female version of Salvatore Dali…only the eccentrics would appreciate my kind of art. Since I’m so bad in this area, I naturally prayed that Ryan wouldn’t take after me in this. We have yet to find out but I’m guessing that he will be lots better than me.

We’ve started Ryan on putting pencils to paper and he’s quite enjoying scribbling and drawing freely. Yesterday he sat down at his desk and drew pictures with grandma. The grandma who said my one animal looked like everything else except what it should be. The same grandma drew 2 pictures for Ryan today and asked him what he thought they were. Look at these masterpieces…

This was the first picture and it does appear quite obvious that grandma had drawn a cat. But you would notice the word “Bee” in it because Ryan said it’s a bee! Hahahaha…see, it’s not just me who has the “talent” to draw an animal that looks like everything else except what it should be!

Here’s grandma’s second attempt…

This is also quite apparent to the eye…grandma drew a dog, right? But we burst out laughing when Ryan said this was a duck! We asked him 3 times and he answered duck twice and finally said it was a camel. More laughter filled the room.

Now you see where I got my genes from? So please pray for Ryan…that he will NOT draw like his mummy and grandma!

P/S Actually, the grandma’s drawing is much better than mine. Which is why you will never see any of my masterpieces in here, unless you want to laugh till you fall off your chair.

Parents who have daughters tend to worry more about the safety aspects of the girls as compared to having sons. Although I don’t have a girl, I tend to agree, seeing how our society has evolved into one where crime rates are escalating and the easy going way of life of youngsters these days that lead to many social ills.

Read this funny story of how parents react when they find out that their daughter got pregnant. Then share what you feel!

A twenty-one-year- old girl tells her Mom that she has missed her period  for 2 months. 

Very worried, the mother goes to the chemist and buys a test kit.  The test result shows that the girl is pregnant. 

Shouting, cursing, crying, the mother asks  “Who did this to you? I want to know!”

The girl picks up the phone and makes a call.  Half an hour later a Ferrari stops in front of their house. 

A mature and distinguished man with grey hair, impeccably dressed in a very expensive suit, steps out of the car and enters the house. He sits in the living room with the father, the mother and the girl, and tells them.

“Good morning, your daughter has informed me of the problem. I can’t marry her because of my personal family situation, but I’ll provide support. If a girl is born. I will bequeath her 2 supermarket stores, a townhouse, a beach villa and a $1,000,000 bank account.

If a boy is born, my legacy will be a couples of factories and a $2,000,000 bank account.  If it is twins, a factory  and $1,000,000 each. However, if there is a miscarriage, what do you suggest I do?”

At this point, the mother,  place a hand firmly on the man’s shoulder and tells him …                                                       
                                                                           
“Then you try again.”

How did you like the story? Funny, but what an irony, huh? Money can really sell you out! Quite like the story of how Slumdog Millionaire’s child star is now being offered for sale by her father!

A mother’s reaction to her kid being pregnant

The boy continues to amaze us each day. Last night, instead of us making up stories to tell him a bedtime story, he took the lead and began to tell his own stories. The funny thing was that he started each of his short stories just like how we would start one. It begins with the phrase “One day…”

The most amusing short story he told was this:

“One day, Boo Boo (the grandparents’ dog!) cook potato. Mummy eat.”

Yeah, that’s how short his story is. Then he moves on to something different altogether. But hey, not bad, at least he knows something has to be cooked before it can be eaten. Only thing is, he imagines that a dog can cook, too!

I love receiving mails with jokes or stories about kids. They are so innocent and naive and things that come from their mouths are just priceless not to mention hilarious at times. Here’s another of my favourite to share with all mummies. Enjoy!

A series of questions were posed to a group of kids and these are their answers to the questions. Aren’t you glad being a mummy?

Why did God make mothers?
1. She’s the only one who knows where the sticky tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mum just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you, your mother and not some other Mum?
1. We’re related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people’s Mums like me.

What kind of little girl was your Mum?
1. My Mum has always been my Mum and none of that other stuff.
2. I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mum need to know about Dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your Mum marry your Dad?
1. My Dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mum eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My Grandma says that Mum didn’t have her thinking cap on.

Who’s the boss at your house?
1. Mum doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because Dad’s such an idiot.
2. Mum. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mum is, but only because she has a lot more to do than Dad.

What’s the difference between Mums & Dads?
1. Mums work at work and work at home and Dads just go to work at work.
2. Mums know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but Mums have all the real power ’cause that’s who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend’s.
4. Mums have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your Mum do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don’t have spare time.
2. To hear her talk, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your Mum perfect?
1. On the inside she’s already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. You know, her hair. I’d die it, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I’d get rid of that.
2. I’d make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.
