Last weekend we went to Precinct 2 of Putrajaya to let Ryan have a look at hot air balloons up close and personal. The drive from PJ was a rather smooth one, right up to the turning in Putrajaya into the Ministry of Finance building at Precinct 2 where the hot air balloon fiesta was held. The traffic going into the area was very slow and lots of cars were parked and even double parked by the road side.

From there, we can see lots of colourful hot air balloons taking off and flying around. When we got to the parking areas, the entries were sealed off as the place was already extremely full with cars. So Ryan and I got dropped off to see the fiesta first as it was already slightly over 6pm. We didn’t want to be stuck in the car and risk getting down to see the whole thing when it got dark.

Armed with a knapsack of Ryan’s change of clothes, water and diaper, he and I walked in and we managed to walk about to see various other hot air balloons being fired up. It was quite exciting for Ryan and since the camera was in the car to be brought along by the daddy when he manages to find a parking space, I fished out my mobile phone to snap some photos for Ryan while we waited.

And luckily we did that because we were never able to find the daddy for more than an hour! The place was very crowded, I think easily a few thousand people were there that night. And the phone lines were all jammed up. It was impossible to make a call, receive them and even text messages didn’t get sent out. It was quite a horrifying experience.

Luckily, by about 8pm the message that I had tried to send out for more than half an hour finally managed to get through and we managed to spot the daddy in the distance, looking all about for us. It was mentally and physically exhausting for me because Ryan got tired too and wanted to be carried. Even before he was tired, I was carrying him so that he has a better view of the balloons and things that were going on around us.

So by the time we got home that night, all I did was to have a long shower, put on my best night creams and mask to relax, and go to La-La-Land.

When the next hot air balloon event comes again next year, I’m not sure if we’ll go again. After all, Ryan has seen it once. And we’re not about to go through the trauma of being lost in communication and finding a needle in a haystack!

Years ago when I was a student I came up close and personal with a hot air balloon. I had a ticket for a ride but chickened out of it. I just watched while it went up, up and away.

Today we’re planning to take Ryan to watch the 2nd Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2010. We’re aiming to go for the evening show. I think he’s going to enjoy it. This experience will probably remind me of the time I chickened out a real experience going on a hot air balloon. Oh well, no regrets about it because given another chance now, I will still give it a miss! Haha.

Not sure how it’s going to be like there in terms of crowd and environment. So better bring my big Kipling bag there and pack in it lots of water, wet tissues and a change of clothes and diaper for Ryan.

After we’ve been and hopefully get some nice shots, I’ll write more about it. Are you going to have a looksie too?

I was actually quite excited with the fact that Ryan is growing up and becoming more travel-friendly. I thought we can then make better use of his passport and bring him to see new places. But with the influenza A H1N1 now being a pandemic, it’s pretty much hampered my hopes of going for holidays with Ryan. I simply dare not go anywhere for the rest of the year. You just don’t know who’s on board the plane and whether the country you are in is truly safe.

I don’t even dare to go for local destinations, in case those places are also frequented by tourists. So it looks like a quiet year with no where to go. At least until this whole flu threat has died down. I wonder when it will start to be well curbed from spreading though. I heard on the news yesterday that the first vaccination will only be available by middle of next year. That’s still a year away and it’s pretty far off, don’t you think?

It’s too bad that here in Malaysia we’re not into recreational vehicles (RV) like caravans. Otherwise it might be doable to do some kind of simple vacations in them. I think those are quite good to have around because you have most of the comforts of “home” in there and you don’t need to spend too much money paying for accommodation wherever you end up as your holiday destination for the family. Some of these caravans are really nice and cosy, like the one pictured below.

Why doesn’t anyone introduce these vehicles here, huh? If they do come to our shores, I feel that the demand for them would be quite incredible. Not only will the sellers make money selling them, even banks that offer rv finance will be happy! I will be one of the first to convince my friends that these are great family assets to have!

Anyway, since we’re far away from having any caravan and H1N1 vaccination in sight, I think I shall start putting away my thoughts for holidays and start focusing and looking forward to something else. Haven’t a clue what it is just yet…

We’re back from our short breakaway. We went back to Ryan’s grandparents’ place down south and as always, we eat and eat to our heart’s content while there. Food is always good not to mention more affordable than in KL. Even Ryan was having lots to eat, although not his own home cooked food. Nowadays he prefers to eat what we eat instead of his porridge.

Other than just eating our main meals, we also bought lots of tid bits and fruits. You see, this time around my mom came with us and we brought her to the more “touristy” places to buy the local biscuits and snacks. We normally don’t visit these stores but since we were there, we also ended up buying. Then, mum got thrilled by some very healthy looking local fruits too so we also ended up buying lots of fruits.

We even bought back lots of goodies for Ryan’s babysitter. We feel the need to feed everyone with just as much food so that if we put on weight, everyone does as well! Haha. Nah, just kidding. If people we are feeding are putting on weight, then maybe we’ll thrown in some appetite suppressants in the bags of food we give to them next time!

After a good weekend it’s going to be difficult to get back to work tomorrow. How? I’m no where near my dream of becoming a SAHM!

I think I’m all shopped out for the last 2 months. There were so many great sales and warehouse sales in town and Busy Bee and I have been going for one sale too many, I must say. From baby products to toys to books to beauty products, we’ve been to many and needless to say we’ve been spending too much. So when I saw the many warehouse sales going on this weekend itself, I’m glad that I’ll be out of town and missing them all!

Just today we were at the Clarins sale. I was the one who asked Busy Bee to drive me there because I was interested to get some eye cream. But we found the sale to be rather disappointing with nothing much to offer, and the discounts weren’t that great anyway. We walked out empty handed and it was a first for us!

There’s going to be a Poney’s warehouse sale this weekend at South City Plaza. At first I was quite tempted to go, but was told that the reviews of the previous sale weren’t good. It looks like I won’t be missing out on much by not going. In any case, we will be away for the weekend so it’s just as well.
