Do you agree that these days a lot of ladies, especially after they’ve become mummies, turn to be entrepreneurs? I personally have come across mummies that are work from home mothers and they are very happy doing what they’re setting out to do. Many of them are also very ambitious with their home-based business ventures too.

I find more and more mummies are now taking advantage of the internet as a medium to set up a trading business. Many of the blog shops are run by mothers. From niche baby products to maternity products for other mothers, clothes, accessories and even lingerie, arts and crafts, scrap booking products and even educational books and toys. You name it, some mothers are already doing it and even well received in the market.

Being one myself, I find it a great way to run a business without having to leave home too much in order to run the business. So far I’ve enjoyed doing so and I’m sure other net-preneur mothers are feeling the same. Some may even be looking after their kids and running their shops at the same time. What more could you ask for, right?

As great as it sounds, I’ve got to admit running a business and doing so from home is not the easiest thing to handle. There are moments of work pressure even when it’s a self-run business. So work-at-home mummies have their down moments too.

Just imagine when you are home-based, you miss out on interacting with friends at work. And when you first start out in business, you’ve got to do everything from the nitty-gritty to the bigger things by yourself. You’ve got to start managing accounts, do the marketing and sales, customer servicing, etc. All these become a 1-person job, no more passing on the duties to fellow colleagues in their specialised departments to run the numbers or do their marketing magic for you. Suddenly, you have to be the expert in every field!

But as with everything, these days you can find just about anything you need on the internet, including solutions. What I have found to complement my needs as well as act as a great resource and support to me is this support group called The Mom Entrepreneur Support Group.

Nowadays support can come from just about anyone, and virtually, so it doesn’t matter that it’s a group that’s not even in the same country I live in. Having said that, I’m sure it’ll be great too if there’s something similar in this country so at least once in a while, some of the support group members can get together. So how do I feel after 6 months of being a work at home mum? Great, really. It’s worth taking that risk and going through the initial pain to get to where I want to be in the end. So it is worth it for me. How about the other work at home mums? What are your stories?

It’s almost coming to 2 months now that I’m on my own. So far it’s been bearable. In fact, I would say its been a really exciting time of my life doing something so different from all the 10 years I’ve been working. It’s also completely different from what I was trained to do from the beginning and I would never have guessed I would choose such a path.

When I was an employee I wanted very much to earn extra income from home. Then when Ryan came along, the want became a need. I desperately wanted to be self employed full time rather than being tied down working for someone else, and to be able to work from home at my own pace.

Now that this is what I’m doing, I feel very comforted that I’ve taken a step to realising what I want. Although it hasn’t been a bed of roses to start with, I consider it to be a great start with some results showing already. Sooner or later, I know I will get to where I want to be.

I’m really glad I chose this path and I strongly encourage other mummies who are thinking of taking the step into being their own bosses to dare to dream and DO IT!

I have no regrets!

After more than a year of toying with the idea in my head and more recently making it a target to achieve, I’ve finally done it – leaving my job. Decided to bite the bullet and just go for it. There is someone that I need to thank for pushing me hard enough to keep bringing the date forward in biting the bullet!

So how do I feel? Great, really. I think of all the things I can do, all the things that I will have time for, and most importantly the time that I can have with Ryan. I may not have all these in the short term, but not long from now I will have it all. Short term pain, long term gain. I think this is my fastest way to the freedom that I want than the conventional way of making a living.

At the moment I’m still on top of the world from my action. Would I feel regret and maybe even the pain of biting the bullet too soon? Well I don’t think so. No regrets and if I ever have that pain from biting the bullet too hard, just fix an appointment with the dentist la! For all I know, it doesn’t even have to be a local dentist, I could find that long time friend who’s a Plano dentist!

Although many think that the path is somewhat uncertain ahead of me, it’s alright. I never expected a smooth sailing one anyway. I just need the right support, effort and know what I am doing. I believe I have all that going for me, thanks to all the wonderful, supportive and positive people around me.

I bit the bullet

Years back before I was married, I was a rather ambitious person in terms of work. Then when baby Ryan came along, maternal instinct kicked in and my ambition at work was quickly shifted to an ambition of being a stay-at-home mummy.

Then from wanting to be a stay-at-home mummy, my direction changed again to being a work-from-home mummy. I figured I can’t stay home and just look after the kiddo and do housework. I won’t be happy with that. So working from home was the next best thing and believe me, I’ve been cracking my head hard on this one, thinking how and what I can do to be a work-from-home mum.

That’s when I started toying with the idea of starting a fashion blog shop some 5 months back. I’ve no regrets although it’s a lot of hard work and late nights, because I enjoy doing it. I think I not only lost a lot of sleep over it, I lost some weight too, managing the A to Z of the business. Friends have been asking if I’ve been on diet pills!

But for what it’s worth, I’m truly happy doing this and of course I’m also reaping the rewards of being in business, albeit a very small one. But I believe given more time, and as long as I don’t give up and go after it with the same passion I have, I will continue to do well if not better.

Not long after I started the blog shop, I soon toyed with another business idea. Although this one will take me way out of my comfort zone, I feel that the rewards are too handsome to pass up and if I can just grit my teeth and go for it, there will be no turning back. That’s when I started gaining lots of momentum in motivation as well as some action.

Just very recently I’ve decided to bite the bullet and take the high road. Although it’s what I’ve wanted for a while now, I somehow felt quite insecure about making a life-changing decision before, as I know I will be threading on a path full of uncertainties. At least in the beginning part. But the funny thing is that once I made up my mind to go for it, I didn’t feel fear nor doubt. Instead, I was washed over with a lot of clarity and I honestly felt a huge burden being lifted off my shoulders. And I felt happy and quite frankly, can’t wait to get started!

As I was driving back today, the radio station aired a song I’ve long forgotten as I haven’t been tuning in to the stations for some time. Back in my earlier working years, I loved this song for the lyrics and upbeat tune. Back then when I was all charged up and ambitious, this song was a great motivation for me. When I heard it again today, those feelings came rushing back to me and I genuinely welcome them. I have not felt this motivated for a very, very long time and I’ve almost forgotten what it felt like to have the adrelin rush.

So here’s a song I wish to share with everyone who look up to and decide to do something better for themselves. It’s called It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. I’ve deleted the repeated chorus in several parts of the song because I thought it might be more meaningful to just observe the lyrics. Enjoy.

August is a happy month for me because it is the month my son grows a year older. I’m looking forward to celebrating his second birthday already. A few weeks ago we were teaching him to sing the birthday song and he’s been happily singing it for a while now. But he has no idea what a birthday song is, of course. Oh by the way, I’ve ordered his birthday gift since last month from Amazon.com and am looking forward to receiving the parcel soon!

Not only is August the month of Ryan’s birthday, it is also a month of birthdays for several family members. Lots of celebrations in just one month, ain’t it?

I also have some new plans to look forward to which will commence then. Looks like a lot of things are jammed pack into August already. Before I know it, I’m sure time will simply zip me by and I’d never have felt the time at all.

Having said that, I’m looking forward to the coming month. A lot of new and exciting path to venture into and it marks the beginning of something new in my life. But before I cloud myself with all these built-up excitement, I better jot down somewhere to remember to shop for auto insurance quotes too as mine is due. Painful yearly payments they are but I’m thankful to have to pay for these as it represents my freedom in having wheels!

Am I getting cheem or what today? It’s all got to do with several motivational books I’ve been on to lately. Yes, I’m finding time again to read, by cutting down on some internet time!
