How many teeth should a 2-year old have?

by Penny on March 27, 2010

Do you know how many teeth a toddler of 2 years of age should have? Or for that matter how is the oral development like for children? I noticed that Ryan still has a long way to go. Seems like he should have more teeth now that he’s already 2 going on 3, but in reality he doesn’t really have that many. I thought I saw a little girl who’s just slightly older than him, having lots more teeth than him.

So that made me wonder if the speed of growing teeth differs from one child to another, or it’s a standard growth rate? Do you know? Also, when should you send your kids to a dentist for periodic checks? A friend of mine in the US brings her kids to her Plano dentist very early on and I wondered if we should start kids early on here too?

Well, good question. I am keen to know too. My little girl is still not very good at eating apples and pears or whatever fruit that is not soft eventhough she looks like she’s got all the teeth she needs.

Ryan has all his teeth by the time he turned 1 year old. Megan only has 8 when she turned 1 year old and then lost one prematurely.

I really don’t think that it matters much since they will still whack the food they like. Megan is eating all the hard muruku but Ryan with all his teeth in tact insist on some food over the others.

And I hear you have to send your kids to the dentist as soon as they have teeth … so very susah la these kids.

I think its everychild is different, I have a few kids and it seems they all got all there teeth at different stages, but I think most of them had a full set at 2 or 3

I suppose you’re all right. Pretty subjective topic when it comes to physical growth, huh? Matt, your kids had full set of teeth by 2 to 3 years? Wow! My boy looks like he’s only gotten half the set and he’s turning 3 in a couple of months.

Molly, thanks very much for the award!! :D Erm…I’ve got to try to repost that to someone else. Been very behind in blogging, not to mention tagging bloggers :)

How many teeth should a 14 year old have? I only have 12 teeth on top and 14 on the bottom. My teeth are ALL very spaced out. There is no room for another tooth but all my teeth are very spaced out.. And we dont have enough money for braces.. Do I need braces or will the other teeth some how come in? Thanks!
Sincerely,
Kacey
