Ryan has turned two about a month ago. He’s been an angel all these while (ok, maybe just to us, other people may see him as naughty whilst we are blinded by love!) but suddenly over the last week or so he’s been acting unlike his usual character. I was recently just talking about how pleased I am that he’s learning good manners and all but suddenly he’s not so generous with his manners anymore at times.
Then someone said “He’s two already. Enjoy the Terrible-Twos. They don’t call it the Terrible-Twos for no reason!”. That got me thinking, how terrible can it be? Any parents care to share? Is this when they really try your patience and test your limits?

He’s been purposely spitting out water and he thinks it’s funny. He refuses to sleep these days until threatened to be left alone in the room, playing with saliva – lots of it and a couple more stubborness here and there. It is rather unlike him.
He’s also recently loved to run about a lot and when I was out shopping yesterday, he was running the grounds like it was his home. He refuses to be stopped too, and I can’t imagine what would come if we did force him to stop. I think other parents who saw me browsing the aisle looking for some acne treatment products at the pharmacy with an active son dashing to and fro and saying funny words must’ve looked at me with emphatatic eyes! No wonder the breakout, they might think! Haha.
I guess this is the start of the Terrible-Twos, no doubt…and we’ve just got to bear with this stage and educate him of our limits, and of his too. So when does it end, huh? I’m quite anxious for this to be over already!

You only experience it now? Lucky you.. I am currently at that stage now and Hayley is only 19 months old. I wonder how long this will last… I can’t wait for it to end!
Hehe, then I guess I am lucky to only start dealing with it after he’s turned 2! Maybe girls aren’t as boisterous as boys?! You can take comfort in that I’m sure!
At least your Ryan runs along the aisles! When my Ryan was at the terrible two stage.. he will go on all fours and crawl on the floor … be it at the hospital, hypermarket…!!!
Hahahaha…oops! I should not be laughing because I just never know if one day my Ryan decides to do that too! So how long did this stage last? The entire year?!
Hi Penny,
My boy just turned two a week ago. His terrible-two symptoms are at its peak now. He is persistent to get the things that he want. If my helper doesn’t allow him, he will pinch and even bite her!
He has been fully toilet-trained since he was 18mths. Now, he insists to poop on the floor, instead of his potty! I just couldn’t understand why.
He is getting more and more fussy with food and drinks too. He used to love yakult (all flavours). Now he only wants grape flavour.. He also wants to choose his own clothes and shoes to wear…
I think I need to find a cane from the neighbourhood shop this weekend.
Is there also a Terrible – Threes stage? My daughter seems to be going through it at the moment, and there are times I think she believes she’s ‘too big’ to be told what to do by a grown up. Help! www.moneysavingmummyuk.blogspot.com
OMG, pinch and bite to get his way! Oh no! And that pooping on the floor must be a real horror! Maybe I should wait to potty train him only after his terrible-two year is up
Hehe, I’m guessing those in the terrible-two stage are also not very afraid of the canes!
