To tame the wild kiddo

by Penny on March 24, 2009

My boy was a handful when we travelled in the car down south over the weekend. He would usually fuss a little while if he got restless and would fall asleep somewhere in between the journey. However, this last trip was a tough one as he fussed and climbed out of his car seat and insisted on sitting on my lap.

We had to stop several times by the side to get him back into his seat and lecture/threaten him. Nothing worked. He would just fuss some more and continued to climb out again, and on to my lap. He was really trying my patience and at some point I was so annoyed that I even smacked his butt. But I don’t think it hurt because I was smacking only his diaper!

After much protests and “fights”, I gave up and just let him settle on my lap. Eventually, the kiddo was “tamed”. I don’t know if he tamed me or I tamed him. Let’s just say that mother and son were both tamed after much resistance. So how was it done? Like this…

Mother and son tired after a long battle in the car!

I just realised that this is my first “appearance” on my blog…and a second for the boy. Here’s his first appearance on this blog some time back.

Hi Penny,
Nice picture.. looking forward to see more pictures of you and your boy in your blog…. :)

My boy also can’t settle in the car.. he refused to sit on his car seat, so at the end, we removed his car seat from the car…

We put a small box of toys in the car, so that he can play during the journey.. it keeps him occupied for a short duration of time, before he gets active again..

I love this shot!

So far Hayley is ok being confined to the car seat. We’ve never tried long journeys yet (at most 45 mins) and she’s fine.

I told myself that if she ever fusses, I will ignore her and strap her down again. I was told that I have to be strict when it comes to being in a car seat as it is important so I dont think I will give way :-) . We’ll see… hehe

Emily, it’s quite dangerous for Edison to not be seated in the car seat, so I guess you must really keep an eye on him. But I assume you would fasten the seat belt on him, does he mind being strapped in?

Amy, it’s good that Hayley is not fussing in her car seat. Keep it up that way, and I agree with you that you should ignore her fusses should she does so in the futuer. I’ve failed but I hope you will succeed! Hehe.

So far so good. I will keep you posted should we have a chance to take long journeys :-)
