It’s Day 4 since I left my boy in his grandparents home town and I miss him terribly. But on Day 4, Toys R Us helped me overcome a little bit of my feelings by offering a member clearance sale of up to 70%, starting today!
I was thrilled and so was Busy Bee, so we headed to one of the larger Toys R Us store to shop. It was definitely a good retail therapy session for me, getting thrilled at finding great bargains and wonderful play things that I think my little boy would enjoy.
Here are some of my great bargains, all at 50% off!
My boy loves playing with mobile phones and he’s broken quite a few except one mobile phone look-alike (it’s actually a Fisher Price Sesame Street remote control toy but he thinks it’s a phone). So when I spotted this Elmo Cell Phone Knows Your Name selling at half the price, I almost immediately knew that I had to grab it for him.

It’s very cool. Each press of the button will see Elmo saying something different, and he even laughs. Here are some of its other cool features:
Elmo loves to talk to you! He knows your name and will chat with you about your day and the weather! This interactive phone also features sound effects, 5 ring tones and and personalized voice mail from Elmo and his Sesame Street friends! It’s easy to program through a Fisher-Price website and it’s the perfect way to stay in touch with your friend, Elmo!
All we need to do in order to customise Elmo to say my boy’s name is to go to the designated website and download from over 15,000 names in its database. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find his name on the list. This Elmo cell phone retails for RM79.90, but I bought it at the clearance sale for RM30. Is it a good buy? I feel it is because from my experience of his previous Fisher Price Sesame Street toy, it can be quite lasting compared to his other cheaper toys. Or maybe it’s just a mother’s excuse to buy him toys!
Next, I got tempted to buy him something that he is too young to play with for now. I got him a set of Play-Doh Octopus. It’s meant for kids 3 years and above, and he’s only going to be turning 2 in another 4 months…but who’s to say he can’t start a little early, huh? But for now, I will definitely be keeping this first, maybe when he turns 2, I will open the package for him.

The reason I was tempted to get it now and keep for later is because it normally sells at RM59.90 but Toys R Us was offering it on sale for RM30. Being such a kiasu mummy, I decided to just grab first. In my mind, I have no objections to him playing with such clay toys, so it’s only a matter of time that I will eventually purchase a set of Play-Doh for him. Good enough reason or excuse or not?
I also decided to get him one more stuffed toy. He has plenty of them and his current favourites are Bob The Builder and the Paddington Bear which I redeemed from the Paddington Bear stamp collection program at Guardian. This time, I bought him a Disney Baby Eeyore stuff toy. He has just learned to call Eeyore and is quite intrigued by him. He’s quite over Pooh Bear so I suspect Eeyore might be his latest interest in the Pooh Bear series.

The original price of his Eeyore stuff toy is RM29.90, but I paid RM15 for it. Stuff toys cost a lot these days, so I was quite happy to be paying RM15 for a medium sized Eeyore from the Disney character collection.
After all that retail therapy, I now look forward to showing these new toys to the boy. I bet he will be quite excited to have new things to play with. Since Elmo is one of his favourite characters, I think I will first give him the cell phone.
Anyone going to Toys R Us for some retail therapy too? Remember to register as a member and get the membership card on the spot to enjoy the great savings! The clearance sales is on from 16 to 18 April. For details on the brands of toys offered for sale, you can refer to Shopping N Sales website.

Hehe, I am so happy with our stash. Not sure if we are satisfying ourselves or the kids!!
i agree with you, penny. the toys from fisher price can be a little bit pricey, but they last for a very long time. as a matter of fact, those toys that i bought for my elder boy seven years ago, are still in good working condition (despite all the rough handling, banging and hammering done!)
Busy Bee, I think we’re the ones who’re more excited. Never mind, we can always pass on our excitement to the kids!!
Ai-Ling, at least there’s someone else who agrees with me that it’s quite worth to pay the price for a Fisher Price toy!
But I don’t always buy them la, just selected ones on sale! You must be a pretty good guardian of those toys now that they’ve been stored for more than half a dozen years!
Oh, tat Elmo phone.. I bought it couple of months ago… for abt SGD11… cheaper in Singapore hor?
Anyway, it is now at the bottom of his toy box.. he rarely touches it now… reason – he prefers to play for real phone than toy phone.. *faint*
Wah you two really ’shiok sendiri’ hor.. hehehe. Aiyah, I was away in Genting that weekend and missed the sale. Never mind will wait for the next one. I am keen to grab a handphone for Hayley too but I am not sure if she will play with it for long as she like Emily said about her boy prefers real phone
. I also bought the Elmo remote control you mentioned in your blog sometime ago and guess what, she prefers the Astro remote than the Elmo remote… *double faint*
Emily, it’s so cheap in Singapore!!! Next time I know better where to shop for Fisher Price toys! Haha, I shall not introduce my boy to play with the real phone anytime soon although he’s starting already!!
Amy, same here, my boy also still chooses the Astro remote control over that Elmo one! Sigh sigh. At least he still uses it as a phone. Haha. I’m sure there’ll be more sales coming up, so for now just save money first
Hi Penny,
I know that Fisher Price toys are very expensive in Msia… I bought this itsy bitsy spider bouncer at abt SGD60+, but my mum told me that it is selling at RM200+ in Parkson Grand (Ipoh)… crazy!
Same goes to brands like Combi…
If I can find a way to export these stuff and sell in Msia, I’ll be super RICH…. kakaka!
Emily, you can start by selling it to desperate mums like us.. hehehe.
It is really nice to earn and spend in Singapore. My colleague helped me buy Avent teats there for only S$5.90 with 10% discount on top of that! I have to pay for them at RM19.90 here…. %@*#@^
Hi Amy,
Yeah, my SIL told me Avent is very expensive too… I havent check out the price…
Sometimes, there are sales in shopping malls, it’s even cheaper..
But if we factor in the shipping cost to Msia, then not sure if still worth it…
Emily, maybe you can think hard about doing this business in Malaysia somehow!
Hmm…start with us, offer us cheap toys!!
Amy, next time we must form some kind of mummy-excursion-cum-shopping trip to Singapore and we go shop ourselves crazy there! Maybe Emily can be the leader and bring us to shop in the best places there
I have colleagues in Singapore who spy for me
. They let me know when there are sales (especially Avent) in Singapore. They also help replenish my Manna biscuit
And I like your idea, the word ’shop ourselves crazy’ very tempting.. haha
Hi Amy,
Manna biscuits not sold in Msia?
Hi Penny,
Feel free to contact me if you happen to be in Singapore for a shopping trip.. would be nice for our boys to meet up as well…
Amy, oh yes, my boy loves the Manna biscuits too!! Lucky you, got spy there!!
Emily, thanks for your invitation!
Will definitely consult you if I step into Singapore, especially for advise on where to shop for kid stuff! Haha.
