What’s your trick to get your kids to eat veges?

by Penny on March 25, 2010

Kids generally don’t have a good habit of eating veges, don’t you think so? I thought I was a lucky mother when Ryan used to love his veges when he was younger. But these days, he seems to be rejecting a lot more food stuff, including veges. I was quite unhappy when this turn of events came about.

But lately we found a way to get him to eat his veges. We are taking advantage of his “vain pot” character to make him eat lots of veges. He likes looking good at all times, whether it’s his hair style or clothes or his general appearance.

So we told him that veges is great for skin and he will have smooth complexion if he eats lots of it. We will willingly open up his mouth and chomp on his veges. Whilst he chews on it, he would touch his face and even ask us to touch along and see if it is getting any smoother as he eats his veges! How vain can he get?!

Speaking of vain, this little vain pot of mine is also the type who worries about getting pimples. Once in a while he does get a red spot or two on his face and he says it’s pimples. He would then ask that we put on some cream or medication to make the pimples go away.

In a way, I’m quite glad that he’s meticulous about his skin condition and his appearance because these days people tend to develop skin and acne problems rather early on in life and these can actually leave unsightly scars throughout their adult life as well if they do not take good care of it from the start. And it’s always harder to try to solve the problem when you reach adulthood, and going in search for adult acne treatments is expensive too. So why not start to develop a habit of taking good care of themselves from a young age right?

So a little bit of vanity sometimes helps a long way sometimes, at least that’s what I think. It’s a big plus for us that we’re able to use this trait in Ryan to get him to eat more vegetables. So what’s not good about it? :)

How do you get your children to eat their vegetables? I have to learn a couple more tricks and teasers because in time to come, just counting on his vanity alone may not be enough to coax him into eating veges.
