We finally found a babysitter!

by Penny on January 2, 2009

Happy New Year everyone! The year 2009 is a great start for us. This morning we popped by to visit a potential babysitter who also lives around the corner from home and to my delight, it looks like a good match for everyone!

We chatted for about half an hour to find out more information both ways. It’s only fair that she and her family also get to know what we and most importantly the little boy is like. The little one was very comfortable when we visited, he walked about the house, finding nice hiding spots to play in and was sociable as always. He went about to wave and say hello, shook hands and even hugged everyone there.

As we talked more, I learned more about her family and friends. I even learned that she’s got a friend who used to work in the company I’m currently with, and who has now become a Wilmington NC real estate agent. I seem to be hearing more and more stories of people who quit their jobs and becoming their own bosses!

Anyway, at the end of the visit, I had already made up my mind that I’m comfortable for my little boy to be taken care of by her. And when we left their house, I felt a big burden lifted from my shoulders and I had a really great day for the rest of the day ahead.

Now I just have to figure out how to start the transition, whether I should occassionally bring the boy over to her place for a short visit of half an hour or so just so that he can learn to be more comfortable with her before the babysitting starts in February. Now that a big headache of mine has been solved, I can sleep better at night. This is just the greatest start of the new year for me!

Great to hear about it!
Think it will be good if you can start bringing him on short visits so that he can be comfortable when you finally leave him on his own.
Remember my idea of springing her some spot checks? That would be good too!

Hope your babysitter works out and your baby is happy with her. Happy New Year! :)

Busy Bee, I think I will bring him over every once in a while leading up to the ‘real’ thing. Spot checks…err…shy to do so la!

Lisa, thanks and Happy New Year to you too! :)

Hey, congratulations! Am truly happy for you.

Busy Bee, how to do spot checks? I have used the same babysitter for 10 months + now and have not actually spot check on her except occasionally arriving at her door step 30 mins earlier than usual to pick up Hayley. I am not sure how else to spot check on her. Although I ‘think’ she is good (well I wont know what she is like the moment I turn my back on her right), it would also be a good idea to do checks once in a while just to be sure ;-)

Thanks, Amy :D Busy Bee is good at these things, you’ve asked just the right person! I’m sure she’ll tell you all about how she does it.

Btw, Amy, I can’t leave comments on your blog because of the limitation of signing on as a commentor, but I just wanted to let you know that my boy does the same thing about throwing things and watching our reaction when he repeats what we tell him not to do. I think it’s common that they do it without anyone teaching them, and they’re testing our patience as well as finding out where our limits are!

I hope Busy Bee will check the comments again and share some tips ;-)

And thanks for the comments. At least I am relieved now knowing that most babies are like that. And sorry about the posting of comments issue, I didn’t know I have to change the settings for people to post comments.. hahaha, silly me. Still new at blogging :-) .

Amy, Busy Bee is about to deliver her baby real soon. You should drop by her blog and contact her before she delivers :)
