It sure was one great long weekend. What did you do?
It was a rather normal weekend for us, spending more time at home than going out these days. Mainly because the little boy has established a better nap routine and if we were out come his conditioned nap time, the poor boy would be nodding away but refusing to sleep because he’s distracted. I must say I have only the new babysitter to thank to establish this nap routine. Before, it was rather difficult to get him down for a nap.
We had to get a couple of baby stuff replenished over the weekend, so on top of grocery shopping, we listed down wet wipes, disposable diapers and milk powder as “must buy” items. The daddy was excitedly telling me about some promotion he saw in the ads – cheaper milk powder at Carrefour. So we headed there although it isn’t my choiced place to shop. Yeah, I give in to promotions and low prices even if it’s at some place I don’t like.
But you know what? When we got there, there was no such promotion! My guess is that the daddy must’ve got confused between the hypermarkets’ promotions. You know how all the major hypermarkets would put out ads on the same day and you would normally get confused who’s offering what at cheaper prices.
Anyway, shopping aside, we also had several moments when we had to avoid bald people. About 2 months back, the boy learned the word “botak” from my uncle and since then, there’s just no stopping him. Whenever he saw bald people or people with very little hair, he would loudly shout “Botak!” to our utmost horror. We have tried in vain to tell him to stop and not do this, but it hasn’t worked. And over the weekend, he had his fair share of calling people that, much to our embarrassment. How are we going to make him stop?!
As embarrassing as those name-calling episodes are, they have also provided us with much laughter. Not that we are laughing at bald people because it is not a funny thing, but it’s just the way he says it, along his funny expression. And if you caught our desperate need to hush him and the horrified expressions whenever he heard him exclaimed the word, I bet you would find us funny too! We don’t mind being laughed at, we just don’t want to be scolded!

Hi..
I stumbled upon your blog few days ago… Your blog is great and I enjoy reading it… I bet our kids are about the same age too… my boy is 18mth now…
I’m a Malaysian, staying in Singapore.. would like to get in touch with some malaysian mothers…
Can I add your URL into my blog?
maybe you should try reasoning with him why he shouldnt shout out the word “Botak”. Make a deal with him…Ask him to pinch his daddy when he sees a bald person instead. (as though it is a secret you guys share). Think he’ll fall for that?
Emily, you have a great mummy blog! Yes, our boys are about the same age. What a fun stage huh?
I’ve linked you in my blog…would be happy for you to link me up too!
Evelyne, I think he’s a bit too young to understand substituting the action with something else…worth a try, but not sure if it’ll work. Will let you know
