I told the paed about how baby is not feeding regularly on formula these days. Because of this, we’ve started to put him on some solid food. She’s alright with what we’re feeding him so far, which is just milk throughout the day, fish and vegetable porridge twice a day and the occassional rice cereals when he refuses milk (he would never refuse cereals!).
From the paed’s observation of baby during the short time we spent in her office, she could tell that he’s a very active baby. She made him sit up to see how stable he is, and put him on all fours to see if he’s able to support himself. She’s happy with his development so far and seems to think he’s quite advanced for his age.
She thinks that his activeness is the reason for his so-called stagnant growth. He also doesn’t sleep much in the day time, much prefering to play and stumble about. The paed recommended that baby be fed more frequently with small meals or snacks in between his feedings. The recommended snacks for him are papayas, bananas, steamed apples, and rusk biscuits. For a heavier snack, she suggested rice cereals to be mixed with two to three ounces of milk.
I hope with all the little snacks in between, he will be supplied with sufficient nutrients to grow despite his level of activities. He’ll be keeping our hands full with all the food stuff to prepare but we aren’t complaining. In fact, I love to see him eat so heartily and happily. Makes all the effort worthwhile.
