Will the economic slump result in more family time?

by Penny on December 16, 2008

With many companies now cutting back on overtime wages, it means more people will now go home to their families. Sure, it also means less income and less to spend. When we have less to spend, we tend to stay home more to avoid incurring unnecessary expenses like paying parking fees and toll charges, not to mention fuel. And we avoid eating expensive food at restaurants and opt for more home cooked food with the family.

While all these change in lifestyle may not sound good to some, there is always a silver lining behind it. On the brighter side of all this is that families will now spend more family time together. They will be more imaginative thinking up games with the kids instead of letting them spend time on the computer to save on electricity bill, have more time to talk and hence communicate with each other, and most importantly, spending more quality time and enjoying time together.

It really isn’t so bad to have less, isn’t it? Of course, I can’t deny that money matters is the one thing that can cause a lot of problems in the home when couples argue about money management. But as long as you communicate and manage your finances well together and don’t let it come between you, things really won’t be as gloomy. Cutting back on some family holidays or fancy meals won’t hurt.
