Another wowing moment for the mummy

by Penny on June 15, 2009

Last night when we got home we realised that we forgot to pick up something from the store. Instead of using the car with the baby car seat installed in it, we decided to just take the other car without the seat because it was easier to get it out. It was going to be a very short ride to the shops within the neighbourhood, so we thought it’d be okay for Ryan to sit with me in the backseat.

When I explained to him that he needs to sit there and not climb about because it is dangerous, he listened and agreed. In fact, he was such a great boy that the entire time he did remain seated until I told him he can get up and look out the window when the car stopped.

But in that short period of time, Ryan wowed me over twice. The first was right after I explained to him that he needed to remain seated at all times. After he agreed to it, he told me that he wanted to put on the seat belt. He pulled it over his little body and I helped him buckle it in. I was quite impressed that he voluntarily wanted to put on the safety belt because whenever he’s in his own car seat, he doesn’t like the safety belt!

I was already beaming with pride at my little son when he wowed me another time as I finished buckling him in. He said “Wear seat belt, otherwise the bad man catch boy boy”. What wowed me in his sentence was the word “otherwise”. We don’t use that word often with him, and definitely didn’t teach him to say it. We found out later that some weeks back his paternal grandma had used that word when he was staying over, so he must’ve picked it up from her.

I’m really very wowed by his vocabs these days. I know this is typical of a first time mother, but I do savour all these wowing moments.
